Description
Context:Welcome to the World of Mithandor!
I've always wanted to make a huge map with tons of details to explore, sort of like a Where's Waldo version of a fantasy world map. This is a world I have been working on for the last 4-5 years, with this map project being started around the start of the COVID pandemic over 2 years ago. I created this world just as a way to give myself something to think about at first, but I've now purposed it into a setting for homebrew DnD campaigns with my friends. For that reason, it includes many features of generic medieval fantasy, including direct references to some of my favorite fantasy media such as Lord of the Rings, The Dark Crystal, The Princess Bride, Avatar, Zelda, Runescape, and many others. It has gone through many changes and alterations over time, but I believe I am finally fully satisfied with this version of the map. I will likely make minor changes in the future, especially as my friends complete campaigns that change the course of my world's future. This new version of the map focuses on the central regions of the world of Mithandor and has undergone quite a few changes since my previous version that displayed the entire world.
Setting Lore:
6,000 years past, the Men who called the lands of Mithandor home were unaware of the ever encroaching presence of the Void or even the presence of the other worlds of which the Elves and other non-humans originated. For they did not concern themselves with the stars and the outworld as there was far too many wonders to distract the hearts of men throughout the lands of Mithandor in the Olden Days before the First Age. The arrival of the Ancients devastated the balance of ancient Men as the Ancients led the refugees of the Five Worlds, the non-human peoples, into the lands of Mithandor. The Ancients had, in the past, unknowingly ushered each of Five Worlds to their deaths as they would go from world to world escaping the grasp of the Void. This time, however, the Ancients would not follow into this realm, as their discovery of Realmwalking is what they understood the Void wished to consume. Since the Worldbridge closed those 6,000 years ago, the First Age began its counting and Mithandor has not been seen by the eye of the Void since, so it seems. Though, that does not mean these Ages have passed with peace, as the presence of so many different peoples across Mithandor created much strife and contest throughout the years.
It has now been 1428 years since the marking of the Third Age. The First Age lasted nearly 4,000 years and endured a great deal of gradual change over time as various peoples migrated to what would become their new homelands. Well over 2,000 years ago, the Second Age began as the Great Wizard Auderic's discovery of Teleportation created the Dark Crystals and ushered the five year long Starstorm, a cataclysmic period in which the world was bombarded with powerful storms of magic. Upon the end of the Starstorm, there was a great influx of new magic in the world that brought upon both a cultural and technological revolution worldwide. With these great gifts also came the folly of scarcity as the arrival of new magics created a fierce competition between the peoples of Mithandor and a great period of war defined the entire 750 years of the Second Age. While global diplomacy deescalated the scale of these conflicts over time, the Third Age began with the official peace between all nations for the first time since the opening of the Worldbridge. Though as time has worn on across 1,428 years and the generations have begun to forget what gave them the peace they knew for so long, there has been an escalating tension between the peoples of Mithandor once again.

I used Wonderdraft as the base program to create this project. (It's a great, cheap, one time purchase map-making program!) I used many of its included assets, however I also used additional custom assets that includes the following:
- Paid premium assets offered by Wonderdraft
- Both paid and free custom assets uploaded to the website Cartographyassets.com (some assets may no longer be available as I made this over the course of 2 years)
- My own hand-drawn custom assets (such as the mountains).
Disclaimer:
I do not intend to make money off this, it's just my hobby. Feel free to use this setting for your own personal campaigns or anything else, but please do not try to profit off this work. If you have any questions about how I made this map, the lore of the world, or anything else, feel free to comment or message! Thanks.
