If I could describe the ponies...
Twilight Sparkle, maybe the leader but... she can be brainy & abit of a bookworm. But Spike the dragon is always by her side.
Pinkie Pie can be very crackers when she see things exciting.
Applejack likes picking apples a lot & make pies with them.
Rarity can be a fashion pony who likes fashion but I can see that she doesn't like getting dirty all the time.
Rainbow Dash can be very fast & cool as Sonic the Hedgehog.
Fluttershy can be very shy to others she doesn't know but... she won't know until she trys to make a new friend like Twilight Sparkle.

It's like characters playing at the Mane Six & Spike. Like my version;

Shadow as Twilight? That's a new one on me. But, I can see him reading some books in spare time.
Sonic as Rainbow Dash? Too perfect. Especially considering the Twilight/Rainbow interactions are similar to the Shadow/Sonic ones.
Cream as Spike? I would have chosen Tails, but I can see why Cream works too.

The only characters that I could think of is... my OC's Stella the Skunk & her friends Sam the Dog, Dusk the Cat, Evelyn the Cat & Rose the Cat
I could describe my characters like...
Stella the Skunk: Is the leader but she's more then a tomboy then a princess or a fighter.
Sam the Dog: Is the brains around here, she likes building stuff & works really hard on her brains like figuring things out.
Dusk the Cat: Can be abit of bad tempered cat princess (who was born in the part before being sent to the future by her late dad to be raised) but she's nice & cool to others even her friends
Evelyn the Cat: Loves to make special foods & doing the Karote Moves when it comes to the Martial arts.
Rose the Cat: Is more of a Cat who like clothes & eating sweet stuff then Stella.
