It's Star Trek time again ...This LCARS keypad was the first I've ever done. It was the "Download of the Month" # 2 in June 2004 on [link] .
The source for this keypad was the book "Star Trek - The Next Generation - The continuing Mission", page 52.
The authentic height should be 5".

Just got an idea for an DIY project to make a universal remote "skinned"/reconstructed with kind of keypad looking style.
Also yesterday I was brainstorming a bit about what today's GUI could adopt/learn from LCARS especially in the last time more and more come to the point that simplicity adds to a distraction less working environment.
(I just read a few nice Blogs related to simplification so don't wonder. As well after discovering Darkroom which is a simple txt editor in fullscreen and black background that I begin to like very much. Also as I use a Netbook with a smaller screen I begin to love use some web-application/pages in fullscreen mode to (Google mail,calendar,apps... with a dark/black redesigned CSS skin)
