Like many other poor souls, Zo had the misfortune of hatching during the plague in Wynsiph. Within hours of hatching his eyes started running with thick black gunk, it clouded his vision and clung to his face in gobs. Just before the end of his first day of life breathing was starting to become difficult, the gunk was running from his nose forcing him to breathe from his mouth with rasps. Those that were not yet afflicted with the plague often moved quickly from the small sickly wyngling trying to reduce their chances of contracting the sickness. The other unfortunate wyngrew with the plague rarely paid him much attention, barely able to weeze out a few words before coughing fits took their breath from them. Zo encountered many other wynglings sick in the streets, but every time he tried to run up to them his eyes would run hard with the foul sickness or he'd stop short to cough up some gobs of the stuff, effectively scarring away any he found without fail. It seemed even the plagued thought he could make them worse.

"No! Ple-*hack*-Please come ba-*cough*-ck!"
Zo called after a trio of sick wynglings as they ran from him. He started to chase after them as he called out. His tears were starting to mix with the sick coming from his eyes, making it watery and allowing it to flow fast and splatter on and around him. The trio turned a corner into an alley littered with rubble and debris. They dodged and weaved through the mess as Zo skittered into the opening of the alleyway. Weezing heavily Zo called out after them "We're all si-*couch*-ck already! *Cough* Please I can't get you any sick-*hack*-er!" The trio were long gone from the alley, Zo's cries going unheard. His tired legs gave out and he gave in to laying where he was as sobs and coughs racked his body. It seemed no matter how many he approached Zo wasn't able to get any wyngrew to talk to him. He was becoming desperate by night fall to get some kind of positive attention, even if it was out of pity. He could see families shut in their houses or working together to help rebuild the town. Even families that had sick members interacting with seemingly healthy members.

Zo couldnt understand why he didn't have anyone, why he had hatched in an alley alone, and why no one would approach him. Why does everyone else have someone else but he has no one? He obsessed over these thoughts as he found some shelter in the alleyway the trio of wynglings had fled from him through. He cried himself to sleep under some broken plywood propped up against a trash can. He hoped tomorrow might be a better day.

The night had brought a harsh chill that the early morning sun could only hope to send away. Exposed to the cold all night Zo's already labored breathing had gotten worse. He had started to constantly drool the black sick, waking up to cough out large amounts before the effort took all his energy and he slipped back into unconsciousness. Pain racked his body when he finally managed to stay awake. His stomach growled as he realized he hadn't eaten anything at all since he hatched. Maybe he could pity someone into giving him some food.

This early in the morning few Gros are wandering about. Zo wandered towards the remains of the Nova tree, black stains and a few large shards of the tree's branches were scattered around the plaza yet to be cleaned up. Had Zo been alive before the Deelagan attack he would have lamented the loss of the tree but all it was to him was more debris he had to avoid.

Rounding an especially large branch Zo walked face first into a tall green wyngro's legs, bouncing back and onto his butt.
"Whoa! Careful there." The green adult said as he crouched to help Zo back up. As the stranger lifted the Zo up he inspected his face with a frown. "Oh you poor thing. What are you doing walking around alone so early unstead of in the quarantine?"

Zo stared at the green adult, mouth agape and silent. The adult continued to assess Zo's sickly condition as he waited for a response. Suddenly Zo started excitedly flailing his legs in the adults grip. "Y-you talked to me! *Cough* You aren't running away!" The excitement proved too much for Zo's sickly body as a bad coughing fit started. The adult quickly turned his face away as he placed Zo back on the ground.

"Of course I'm not running away little one, I'm Dr. F. It's my job to take care of the sick and injured. Most importantly right now I'm caring for those like you who have the plague." The doctor stayed crouched next to Zo, patting his back as the wyngling coughed. "Let's get you to the quarantine and see if we can help ease that cough."

Dr. F stood and waited for Zo to stand as well before walking to the quarantine. Finally having another wyngro willing to interact with him Zo asked Dr. F every question he'd had since his hatching on the way, barely pausing long enough to breathe and somewhere in there managing to tell the doctor his name as well. Dr. F let him ramble out his questions, even pausing to make sure he was finished before answering the best he could. Dr. F told Zo about the Deelagan and how it caused the chaos that left an unusually high number of eggs and wynglings to be abandoned. He explained that once they were at the quarantine Zo wouldn't be alone anymore, he and the nurses as well as the other sick patients would be his constant company.

Zo's spirits we're higher then ever when they reached their destination. The bleakness of the situation not quite fully understood by the child as he bounced in through the tarp flaps after the doctor. Sad and sick wyngrew filled every bed and free space but Zo kept his attention on Dr. F.
Zo was about to launch into another tangent of questions when his empty stomach cut him off with a loud growl. Dr. F chuckled, "Would you like something to eat?" Zo fervently shook his head, "Yes please I'm starving." Dr. F smiled gently, "Alright let's go see what we can find for you."

After a few minutes they managed to find some fruit that Zo wolfed down sloppily, getting juices and buts of pulp stuck to his face and hands. Zo was about to start licking his claws when Dr. F couldn't help but chuckle at the sight of the messy wyngling, "How about get you a nice bath now? Get some of the grime off of you."

Zo nodded and followed the doctor to a small tub that Dr. F filled with just enough water to reach the wyngling's waist. Zo climbed into the tub while Dr. F grabbed some soap and a couple towels. The doctor soaped up a smaller towel and started scrubbing Zo's face. He had most the mess from the meal cleaned up when he stopped briefly realizing he'd created a soap beard. Dr. F started laughing as he returned to scrubbing. "What are you laughing at? What's so funny?" Zo meekly asked. "I accidentally gave you a bubbly beard. Now you match me," the doctor beamed. "Wow really?" Zo's eyes lit up"do you think maybe I could be like you when I grow up? Be a doctor and help others?"

Dr. F's face fell a little and he smiled sadly at the wyngling, "You can be anything you want when you grow up, even a doctor like me. But we've gotta get you healthy again first." Zo nodded, "What do I need to do to get healthy then?" Dr. F started rinsing the suds and grime off, "Well now that we've got you fed and clean you need a lot of rest. Resting allows the body to focus it's energy on fighting the illness." Dr. F lifted Zo from the tub and wrapped him in a towel, "Can you dry yourself off while I find a blanket and a bed for you?"

Zo started wiping off the water while the doctor went off on his search. After a few minutes Dr. F returned, "I found a quite warm spot for you." Zo bounded after the doctor as he walked past patients occasionally stopping to check them along the way. They came to a space that was mostly filled with wynglings, a space near the wall vacant. "Right here Zo. Let's get you cozy," Dr. F layed down a darkly colored blanket that he partially drapped over the wyngling as he layed down. "Even if you can't fall asleep right away you should still lay here and rest. Maybe get to know the other wynglings around you."

Zo smiled at the doctor as the black gunk started leaking from his eyes again. "I'll rest as much as possible and make tons of friends! Thank you for being my first friend Dr. F." The doctor smiled softly at the wyngling before leaving to tend to other patients. Zo spent the rest of the day talking to any of the wynglings near him willing to listen. Towards the end of the day his eyes started to droop and his head felt heavy. He layed his head down on his arm as he thought of all the potential tomorrow held after he had a long rest tonight. He let out a long shakey breath as his eyes shut. He quickly lost consciousness as his breathes became shorter and shorter until inevitably they stopped.
