Description
1 plus 5 plus 6 = 12, and still learning some new things. Its effectively how long I have been drawing. Now I write it out like that because its been spaced quite a bit. The earliest I have found myself drawing was apparently 2003 from one of those how to draw this animal here, which in my case was dolphins. But then fast forward to 2006 when me, my younger sister and older brother was watching the anime Bleach and my older brother drawing somethings there. That made me wanna draw and was something I did up until around 2011 more or less.
Then again fast forward to 2017 when I just needed something to do while working a good but ultimately somewhat boring job. I went back to drawing because none of the other hobbies I did then I could do. And just ended up sticking to drawing to this day. And from all that time been trying to improve at it everyday.
But one of the things I really enjoyed as of late has been drawing what I see, its relatively easy for me but even still it has its challenges and still learning somethings with it. And one of the reasons I do this "30 days of portraits" thing is to improve. And there has been at least 3 things I wanted to mention that I think I have learned with doing this.
1.) I can only do at best 1 portrait a day, but more likely 1 a week if I wanna do it well or its more difficult to do.
Fun fact, I had planned to do 15 portraits in this month, and well that didn't turn out well. xD
But overall its actually fine. Quality over quantity. And its a good way to find my limits. Maybe if I get MUCH better over the coming years I can increase it, but for now it seems like 1 every 2 two days is my limit. But one a week is my comfort zone to do it well.
2.) Drawing two people at once its a bit challenging and requires a little more effort.
I tend to only draw one person at a time. But for a few of the portraits here two people here were gonna be the end result.
When I draw one person I don't have to worry *as much* about spacing and trying to get that person in the right spot overall. But with two people that matters a lot more since I not only need to make sure the first person is in the right spot but also the second is too relative to the first person. Its just something I gotta keep trying to work on as time goes on.
3.) Use less colored pencils and low odor thinner overall.
While I LOVE this technique when it comes to coloring and the final stages of drawing. I think some of them turned out a bit less than ideal when it comes to drawing because I didn't do the coloring stage with the previous step as well. An example of one I did well I think was day 14 and day 17 with Dave Ramsey and Lily Hammer respectively, but I think day 21 and day 30 with nabecam and lily.chihiro1129 for day 21 and Akira Complex for day 30 suffer from looking a bit too blurry overall. More so day 30 with Akira Complex I think.
But overall I'd say this year was a solid win. I can't say I'm complaining too much. I feel like I have improved quite a bit even compared to last year, which was already a solid improvement to the year before. So a win overall! Definitely still improving and learning even after 1 plus 5 plus 6 years!
Another small note I think my overall best one was the Lily Hammer one I finished on day 17, but the most meaningful one is definitely day 30 with Akira Complex for obvious reasons. 😞
I also wish I did more musicians this year, but I can save that for next year I guess.
In terms of what I'm gonna focus on now is finishing up some of the pictures I had posted on July and also drawing anime and video game cosplays I wanted to do along with some personal projects and commissions I have from friends and family I need to finish or get started on. But I'm gonna focus on that for Monday. For now gonna take a break from drawing and do more gaming and other creative hobbies.
So thats it! 30 days of portraits fully completed! Until next Monday with my next drawing, have a great weekend and see you all on the 4th!
