Description
"This back brace just feels like it's making things worse!" For the next few days after her accident and the subsequent return from the hospital, Raven has pretty much spent life moving (slowly) from the couch to the bed. At the hospital she declined getting her back checked out, insisting that the worst of the fall was her arm and tailbone. But after a few occasions where I literally needed to help her stand up, through the wincing and groaning she finally admitted that at least a little extra support was needed. At least we still had the back and neck braces from her *literal* run in with the concrete wall on that obstacle course zip line."Do you still feel like going out?" We had a date night planned, but it had felt tentative to say the least with her condition.
"I want to try, but.." as I walk in to the bathroom, I see her fumbling with her cast, struggling fasten the brace. "But for starters, the way this fits pushes right on my cracked ribs. And that isn't the worst of it! I really thought that it would help, but it just doesn't feel like it's helping much! I am still in so much pain!!"
I know that Raven is done with medical casts for a while, so I can sympathize. But she is a bandaged mess right now, and I worry that her stubbornness might be leading to her neglecting injuries she may not even know she has right now.
"Raven, I think we might need to go back to the hospital."
"No, I'm fine."
"Raven," I gently put my hand on her back and give the slightest nudge.
"AAAAHHH!!!"
"I think we need to go back to the hospital," I say again
