Description
" You left me in the ColdSaid I was too Old
I wanted to know Why
You left with no Goodbye
I waited in the Rain
Never saw the lights through all the Pain "
Poem thing I wrote to go with the picture
---------------------------
Tens of thousands of unwanted animals are surrendered to animal shelters each year. Many more are abandoned in areas where their likely fate is death by accident, starvation, disease or from predators, with the estimated number of companion pets killed by motor vehicles in the United States annually being 26 million cats and 6 million dogs.
Four million cats and dogs — about one every eight seconds — are put down in U.S. shelters each year. Often these animals are the offspring of cherished family pets. Spaying/neutering is a proven way to reduce pet overpopulation, ensuring that every pet has a family to love them. The cost of spaying or neutering a pet is less than the cost of raising puppies or kittens for one year.
How do dogs end up in shelters?
Each year millions of innocent dogs and cats are tortured, neglected, abandoned, and abused. These "castoffs" or strays struggle to survive under stressful and, often, horrific circumstances – alone at the mercy of the elements, without food or water, without the care or aid of human beings, without love and compassion, and without hope of companionship, friendship, help, or support from people. Ultimately, these animals end up in municipal animal shelters or welfare organizations, and if they are too weak or ill, or in any way display aggressive behavior (keep in mind that they are terrified and traumatized in their new environment), they will be euthanized.
Some of the animals in animal shelters or rescue organizations have been born and raised in puppy mills and never experienced life outside a crate. Others are the inadvertent victims of greedy and irreputable backyard breeders. Others have been someone's family members and have been surrendered to an animal welfare organization or shelter because of various reasons (i.e. divorce, separation, relocation, financial loss and so on) that we may never comprehend.
The numbers of abandoned pets escalate over the Christmas and Easter periods when 'owners' choose to abandon their animals rather than arrange alternative accommodation for them while they are away, or pets given as Christmas presents lose their 'cute and cuddly' appeal and are discarded. Many animals end up at animal shelters and if no homes are found for them, through no fault of their own, they are killed.
Owners who choose to drop a pet off at one of these shelters are only giving that pet a 36% chance of survival.
Pet stores, breeders, and puppy mills.
Can you imagine forcing your pet dog to live his or her entire life in a small wire cage with no human companionship, toys, or comfort, and little hope of ever becoming part of a family? That is what life is like for a puppy mill breeding dog. Help us stop this cycle of cruelty that contributes to pet overpopulation and the suffering of countless dogs.
"Puppy Farms", or "Puppy Mills", mass-produce puppies for sale on the internet, through ads, brokers or at pet shops. Unsuspecting buyers contribute to the problem.
Pet shops encourage impulse buying, and when cute puppies and kittens lose their appeal and grow into adult dogs and cats they are often dumped or end up at an animal shelter.
There are many reasons to adopt a rescue dog rather than purchasing one from a breeder or pet store. Many people assume that if they buy a dog from either of these sources, it will be healthier and sounder. This is a misconception, as many dogs sold to pet stores come from puppy mills where, until they are sold, are kept in deplorable conditions, confined in crates that are small and cramped and piled upon each other, fed inadequate diets, given dirty or contaminated water, and provided with little, if any veterinary care.
Adopt a Pet
If you decide to get a puppy or kitten, dog or cat, go along to an animal shelter and select one from there. Most will be the results of unplanned pregnancies, found abandoned, or delivered to the refuge at an early age. All pets taken from a welfare agency are checked, and treated if necessary, by a veterinary surgeon before being placed. All are either desexed before leaving the shelter, or are issued with a desexing voucher.
By adopting a companion animal you are taking the responsibility of caring for the animal for its whole life - that is a great commitment and one that is not to be taken on lightly. There are many issues to consider before introducing a companion animal into your family, and these include; desexing, identification & registration, surgical procedures and responsible ownership, as well as deciding on where to obtain your new friend.
Advantages of adopting a shelter dog
1. You'll save a life
One of the most significant benefits of adopting a shelter dog is that you are saving the life of a sentient creature that is in desperate need of a loving home. Innocent and vulnerable, she depends upon human beings for her care and well-being and will learn to trust and love her "guardians."
2. Sense of fulfillment
It is very fulfilling to save a life and watch it blossom and flourish with love, care, appreciation, and respect.
3. Improved quality of life
Rescue dogs have the ability to lift your spirits as well as improve the quality -- and increase the longevity -- of your life. The health benefits associated with adopting a companion animal like a dog are many and even scientifically substantiated. Your furry friend will benefit both your physical and emotional health.
4. Unconditional love
A rescued dog knows he has been "saved" and is grateful, loyal, and unconditionally loving. He is eager and content to become a beloved member of your family.
Adopting a rescue dog may require more time, attention, effort, and patience from an adopter than a dog that has not been abused or neglected. However, the joy and gratification to be derived from saving a dog in need are boundless.

the vets said it was genetic, like a defect but it could or couldn't of happened. she lives a very athletic fun life at our house so it probably tore over time. shes been limping on and off every so often for the past year or so and we always asumed it was just somthing simple like a soar paw or what-have-you but recently shes gotten way more lame as of late so we took her to the vet (who lives next door to us) he gave us his opinion that it was an ACL tear and recomended it be ex-rayed so we did and it was confirmed. the tear itself is actually quite common and the surgery isn't so complicated its just costly and the recovery period is about 8-12 weeks so we desicded to try the other things first, like phisical therapy and what not

beany is doing fantastic, shes now happily stettled in and a big part of the family, shes curently passed out in her cat condo from a long night of chasing my mouse around the screen, and tareing up the furniture. iris on the other hand has gotten worse with her limping, we really need to do the surgery over the sumer, but my family is away a lot around that time (horse show season) and we would need to be their to help her recuporate after the sergery. i might end up staying alone at the house while my sister and mum go to the shows or she might end up at my dads, we dont really know yet. but hopefully shell get better after her ACL tare is repaired. the vet said it was probably genetic, though her sister is fine and healthy.

Yes they are! The lambs we found a month ago - their owners have just come forward now and we returned the lambs to them, only they are accusing us of having stolen the lambs! I can't understand these kind of people, ugh
I do try to make time to reply to everyone - sometimes a bit late but still, I don't like never getting a response from people, so at least I try?

i hate people like that, just cuz you lost your animal doesnt mean some one "stole it" it means it just wandered off or whatever. i would be happy the person returned my pet, safe and sound.
i dont have a facebook but i have a tumbler, my camera has lost its charger so i might not be able to post one for a bit, but i have old ones in the photo section of my gallery.
she hasnt had the surgery yet, my mom missed the apoinment beacuse she has nemonia so still waiting on that.
you do a wonderful job of responding to everyone, it is much apreciated

Ugh, now every one of our neighbours have turned against us even though they know the real story!
You can see the whole thing on our facebook if you haven't already... www.facebook.com/crittercareau…
They think we were withholding the animal from them, even though we had agreed to give the lambs back at the time they requested, simply because we wanted to make sure they were the true owners of the lambs so we asked a few questions, eg. what colour, etc.. Their reaction just makes me sick
Anyway, you have very cute chickens and a lovely place
I just hope the slaughterhouse doesn't attack you for "stealing" their chickens

haha i live with a bunch of horse back riders and the chikens were taken when they wandered onto our barns property, i would just love to see them try to take the chikens back. we rescued them from squalid and abhorrent conditions, no way in hell are they getting them back.
why are the neighbors you actually need in situations like this always the first to turn? its the whole mob dynamic thing i think. if they cant tell you color or gender then the lambs probably arn't theirs.
my advise: collect a barn full of insane horse people, they are wonderful at arguing with neighbors

CobraVenom In reply to finnicky-dragon [2013-10-24 07:01:18 +0000 UTC]
The lambs turned out to be theirs, which we found out by contacting the vet. If you own something and someone is asking you a couple of questions just to make sure you're the correct owner, throwing a hissy fit just makes you look like the incorrect owner. Ugh
If I had any friends I would use them as backup, only problem is I am a home schooled hermit who has never even had a single friend
Anyway, I just realised number 5 here cobravenom.deviantart.com/art/… has been reserved for you for 42 weeks instead of the 3 weeks it was supposed to have been reserved for
If you don't want it anymore I'll put it up for sale again

well at least its all sorted out now, some guys just need to learn how to relax.
damn i wish i was home schooled! i go to private school up here in WA and i have very few friends (introversion for the win) most of the kids are stereotypes, not even sarcastically so. then again i have the creative loner to a T sooo.... oh well. barn girls are just viciously protective of their herds or animals, you don't even really need friendship to earn their protection just a furry friend.

I recently adopted a cat at the shelter and he is the sweetest little guy I have ever meet. His name is Duce ^^
He in his short life (he was only a month old when the shelter received him) lived in one of the most disgusting hoarder house. There he picked up shyness to people and mild food aggression. He came in with two sisters, one died of a fear induced heart attack before she got out of foster care, the other was so fearful she coward in the cage when everyone passed. No cat should have to live like that.
Duce is now 6 months old and you would never have guesses his origins! He is super sweet and very very very cuddly. I have enjoyed watching him blossom.

I've been working in a no-kill shelter for about a year now, and it's one of the greatest things I do! Fostering animals is also great, especially if they're feral. I've had 7 foster cats so far, and they were all terrified of humans when they came to my house. When they went back to the shelter every one of them was friendly and companionable, and each one of them has been adopted.

All 7 were kittens (1 year or younger) and my brother adopted one of them. For a short time we fostered one adult, about 8 years old, who has one eye and three legs. But we fell in love with him and ended up adopting him
