James was a student at Magic Academy. They had studied magical creatures such as leprechauns. Supposedly they had a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow but no one had ever reached the end of the rainbow to find out. According to legend, whoever caught a leprechaun would get three wishes. It would be far easier to get the gold this way but the teacher warned them against trying it.

Not one to listen to such warnings, James spotted a rainbow during lunch and went off to find the end of it. His journey started with crossing a field of grass. The grass got higher and higher until it was above his head. Then the grass turned into trees blocking most of the sunlight. Animals could be heard nearby and vines were visibly growing from the trees in his direction. Despite all this, he could still see the rainbow and quickened his pace towards the end of it.

While all this was going on, James did not notice his appearance was changing. One of his eyes turned red and the other one turned green so they no longer matched. The hair and his head grew longer and longer, body hair disappeared, all masculine features faded and were replaced by feminine ones, and his entire body became female. The name Jane entered his, or her, mind which sounds like the name she should have.

The school uniform she wore also changed. Her shirt and pants merged together and changed color forming a green dress, her socks rose up to her thighs, and her black shoes turned brown. Jane did not forget she was looking for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, so she continued after it. As she got closer, the leprechaun made a personal appearance to protect his gold. She caught him! He let Jane catch him but she felt that was beside the point.

"You caught me now you get three wishes!" exclaimed the leprechaun. "You could wish for me to change you back."

At first Jane did not know what he was talking about. Then she remembered being James. She thought it would be good to be changed back but that would be a waste of a wish.

"You might also want to use one of your wishes to get home," the leprechaun suggested. "All kinds of animals and magical creatures can be found here. Some of them will tear you to shreds without a second thought."

Jane realized this was a more immediate concern. She would have to use one of her wishes to return to where she was.

"Also you might want to use one of your wishes to make sure none of the creatures here follow you," recommended the leprechaun. "Some of them can and will!"

Jane thought about this. She had to plan her wishes carefully, including the order in which she made them, if she wanted to get what she wanted.

"For my first wish, I wish none of the creatures here except you can follow me," said Jane. "For my second wish, I wish we were back at Magic Academy."

"Granted and granted!" exclaimed the leprechaun creature a puff of magic smoke twice,

When the second puff of smoke cleared, Jane and the leprechaun were at Magic Academy. Plenty of students and teachers were nearby but none of them were moving.

"What is going on?" demanded Jane.

"Nothing, they are moving at their normal pace," explained the leprechaun. "We are the ones who are different. Our time has been greatly accelerated so they can not see us. You are also aging at an accelerated pace and will die in what for them will be a little over a week. During that time none of them will be able to interact with you."

Jane weighed her options carefully. She could wish for the pot of gold and be trapped in a (for all practical purposes) timeless world. She could also use her wish to become James again and be trapped in a timeless world. Neither of those options were very appealing. That left only one option.

"I wish for my pace to return to normal," she said.

"I will grant it but there is one thing I would like to mention before I do," responded the leprechaun. "You might want to ask a teacher to change you back before you forget again."

With that, the leprechaun created another puff of smoke and the students and teachers around her started moving again. They paid no attention to Jane's sudden appearance. At Magic Academy people were appearing and disappearing all the time. Jane quickly headed towards one of the nearby teachers knowing her time was limited.
