Words Below:
Preston and Frank lived in the same dorm room. They were only a few rooms away from each other. Preston was a freshman. Frank was a sophomore. Frank invited Preston to his room frequently. He allowed him to watch his TV and even use his computer.
Preston did the same for Frank. He did not have a TV but he did have a computer. It was state of the art. One day Preston went off to do the laundry. When he got back, his computer had been taken. On the desk was a typed message. It demanded that he place 100 dollars in an envelope and leave it on a chair downstairs if he ever wanted to see his computer again.
Looking at the note, Preston sighed. He knew not to give into terrorism no matter how small it might be but he really wanted his computer back. He still had several homework assignments on it and they were due in a matter of days. As he wondered what to do, he noticed he received an invitation to a party at the sorority. He was well aware of the rumors but he needed to get away from things for a while. Besides, he did not see how things could get any worse.
While at the party, Preston told the girls there what happened to him. They knew a task like this required the president so they went to get Rose. Rose invited Preston into the sorority garden. Preston knew the sorority house did not have a garden, yet when Rose opened the door there it was. Though he did not understand it, he stepped inside anyway.
The garden had many different types of trees and flowers. Birds flew overhead. At the center of the garden was a stone bench. Around the stone bench was a circular walkway. Eight additional walkways, from the corners and the center of each side, lead to the walkway in the center.
Rose walked down the walkway to the stone bench and sat down. She invited Preston over. Preston was still in shock by all that had happened. He stepped forward. As he did, his senses became overwhelmed. The melodious sound of the birds, the sweet smell of the flowers, the hard feel of the walkway below, and the refreshing light from the sun overhead all overwhelmed her senses.
Penelope continued to walk forward. She felt like she was forgetting something. It probably had something to do with problems at college. Whatever it was, it could wait. Penelople had on a fancy blue, pink, and white dress and open wedges. She did not remember putting on something quite so fancy. Then she remembered she was dressed like this because she wanted to join the sorority.
The president herself had invited her to sit down at a stone bench in the middle of their garden. Penelope would not get a better chance than this. Rose told her the sorority had voted and she had been accepted. Just talking to them had been enough. Apparently they liked what she had to say.
Rose explained to Penelope that sense acceptance was determined by vote, those who had gone through hard times tended to have it easier. While Rose was on the subject, she told Penelope about someone who had stolen a computer and demanded money before he would give it back. This greatly angered Penelope.
The girls at the sorority networked with their friends and discovered that Frank was the culprit. Penelope was informed of this. This made her very disappointed. She thought Frank was a friend of hers but no friend of hers would do something like that. Rose suggested that they come up with a way to get back at him. Penelope agreed. The sorority would provide the money but it would also come with an offer he could not resist.
