Description Not all lions are good. Β

Some are worse than others, and then there are the few that even the other tribes shun. The Black Manes are one of those tribes.

The Black Manes are a group of lions who are known for their cruelty, monstrous tendencies, and above all else for the habit of eating the tributes given to them. Driven out by the other tribes the Black Mane clan has not been offered tribute in years and maintains a hostile relationship with both herbivores and predators alike.

Now few in number only a scattering of their former power little remains of their legacy, save for a camp side stories told to children in the dead of night. With no survivors coming out of their den, and with few foolish enough to trespass into their territory, no one has seen a Black Mane in decades.

Until one emerged to tell the tale.

Delka. Β

C.S. Notes: This is a character I had left long ago on the back burner for the first comic book I worked on. Before Amenii and Nera existed, before Nick and Judy staring in Zootopia was even on the drawing boards, there were two others: Ombwa and Gerrell. Ombwa the prince of a prominent lion tribe, and Gerrell, as common birth gazelle trickster. Their story is one of hate, love, respect, and the problems between predators and prey trying to co-exist.

Thank you, she is probably the most dark character I have ever created, having a very tragic past. I will be going into greater depth with her character later this week.

Probably not. There are some things one does not really recover from. Having ones limbs eaten is one of them.

Code-Shark In reply to JackAxeWell [2017-10-09 02:38:42 +0000 UTC]

A group of lions, a tribe that believe the old ways should not die. That predator and prey should not co-exist, and that prey should be treated like a feral animal to be hunted and eaten at their will. Not a very popular sort, with the changing times, as fledgling alliances have begun to from between tribes of gazelles and lions.

They were a predominant faction, but as their prey began to use tools to make themselves more and more difficult to kill, their influence began to wane.

There bodies will hit the ground before they even her the crack of the bullet. They will die without ever knowing that are going to die. That is all that I will give them. Because when I get to their body I'm going to bury their head face down in the earth. So nobody will have to see their bodies, not even the vultures.

A sad tale indeed.
The Black Manes are very evil.
Seems they enjoy the long suffering of their prey more than the quick rush of the kill.

Indeed, I was hesitant to post this one, as she was developed years ago and has a very grim story. She does play an important roll as a character in Ombwa and Gerrell's story though. And her take, though a tragic one does have a sort of happy ending.

*shudders* This image is far too cruel and wicked. It appears the Black Manes made sure their victims were still alive while slowly consuming them. Not unlike Hannibal Lector from β€œSilence of the Lambs”. How she ever escaped with the loss of her limbs is beyond me but it seems she did. Did she have any help from the outside?

Code-Shark In reply to JKnight97 [2017-10-05 03:09:48 +0000 UTC]

If only, her story is far darker than that I fear. Drudging this one up from the Dark Years, her tale is only touched on as a nightmare form of reality, when creativity is allowed to create without bounds.

Β She did not escape, but was instead strung up in the branches of a tree. Suspended as to be low enough for feral predators to pull on her, but not low enough for them to get a firm grip on their prey. Discovered by a tribal lion on a vision quest, he was shocked to find that she was still alive, though delirious from heat exhaustion coupled with dehydration.

β€˜Kill me. I want to die.’ Were the first words he made out from her.

Rather than grant her plea, he cut her down and took her back to his dwelling. There, bathed her, fed her, and nurtured her back to some semblance of health. Later going as so far as to fit hammered brass coverings for her stumps, as to allow some mobility. She still remains greatly dependent on his support to live, but they keep to themselves living as lovers in the savanna.

The torture she went through is mind-boggling. I would not have wished that against my worst enemy. The question is what did her lover do? Did he seek revenge for her, slowly hunting down the last members of that dastardly tribe till there were exterminated?

Code-Shark In reply to JKnight97 [2017-10-05 03:22:27 +0000 UTC]

What happened to her at the hands of the Black Manes is not discussed, not even behind closed doors. As for what happened afterwards, her lion lover did not seek out revenge on the tribe. Alas he was only one, and the Black Manes were many at that time and feared by the other tribes, as they were not above setting the savanna afire to drive another tribe into their concealed hunters. Or, poisoning the water of a tribe, or… their atrocities go on and on.

No, instead he took her to his dwelling far away, somewhere safe to live out her life away from predators. Over the years they formed a small dwelling of their own, build around a gazelle population. Not quite the happily ever after one comes to expect, but their story is not t
