Standing at the edge of the opening of the mountain, you peered down. Nothing could be seen. Perfect.

“Get back here, you don’t know what you’re doing!”

The police chased you up the mountain, trying to talk you out of it.

You had nothing left to live for anyway… You jumped.

While falling, something strange happened. You were filled with a strange sensation, a burning in your veins. A primitive instinct to survive suddenly filled you with Determination.

No… I can’t die yet!

That was your last thought as everything faded to black.

Upon awakening, you found yourself on a bed of golden flowers.

… or at least they might have been golden at some point. They looked like they were withering away. All of them… except one. The only one who wasn’t wilting had torn petals. You walked toward it, brushing your hand tenderly along one of the petals.

“Ah! Wait, please don’t hurt me, I’ll be good I’ll-”

The strange talking flower froze as it made eye contact with you.

“A human? Down here? Oh no… not again.”

He shook his head. Carefully he motioned for you to come closer. Once you did, everything turned black once more, except for you and the flower.

“I need to teach you how things work around here… You’ll die otherwise.”

A rush of fear overtook you. You would die after all? Before you could panic, the flower smiled gently.

“Don’t worry, I won’t hurt you. I’m your best-... well, only friend down here.”

He motioned to a floating red heart in front of you, which seemed to have some cracks in it. You noticed a health meter that read 10/20.

“Ah… that fall must have done damage to you. Down here, not only can monsters hurt you in a FIGHT, but things that would harm you in your world will still harm you down here as well. Let’s practice some dodging. Don’t worry though, these are healing pellets. They will heal you if you run into them. You can tell, because they are green, but white attacks will hurt you. Just for now, pretend these are deadly and dodge them. I will heal you after.”

Not seeing anything else to do, you follow the weird flower’s instructions. Small, glowing green pellets flew towards you, slowly. So slow, in fact, that you could dodge them by casually stepping out of the way. You knew, though, that other monsters may not be so kind. After dodging them for a while, the flower smiled at you.

“Well done! Now, run into these.”

He threw 10 pellets at you. Grabbing them all, you noticed your heart was fixed and your health meter was maxed out.

The world changed back to normal. The flower nodded thoughtfully.

“That heart you saw was your ‘SOUL’. If you take too much damage…”

He trailed off, but it wasn’t hard to see what he was going to say.

As much as you appreciated his information, you couldn’t help but ask…

“How do I get out of here?”

The flower looked up at you, seeming conflicted.

“Well… I can lead you out of here, but… It won’t be safe. Asgore, the King of this land, will undoubtedly want your SOUL. And let’s just say that the other monsters… take after their King.”

“Surely they aren’t that evil…?”

“You aren’t the first human to come down here, you know. Six humans fell before you. They all died, and Asgore has their souls. He wants them to break the barrier. We’ve been stuck down here ever since the ancient war with the humans. We were okay at first, but the isolation started to get to some of us and… now it’s kill or be killed.”

“So… how do we get out of here, then? Monsters will surely find us…”

“It’s your call. You can kill them, try to run through without killing anyone and escape as fast as possible, or… no, nevermind.”

This got you curious.

“Or…?”

“... you could try to help us. But I advise against it. Pacifism just doesn’t work around here. It’ll just make you get hurt. But in the end, it’s your choice. You can’t truly die here. Your Determination is the strongest I’ve seen in a long time. With that being said, what do you want to do?”
