Description
It could be a picture of earth from deep space, but it isn't. The background image is a fractal. The foreground sphere is a photo of a polished sphere of inverted sodalite. It was inspired by the Snowball Earth Theory. Some scientists believe during the Cryogenian Period of the Neoproterozoic Era, earth was completely covered with snow and ice. There is some geological evidence that points to the theory, but since it may have occurred over 700 million years ago, no one is one hundred percent certain the whole planet became a "snowball".
