There are some pretty cheap tablets out there--especially since you won't need pressure sensitivity if you're using Microsoft Paint.
just make sure you don't buy one of these by mistake, 'cause they look real similar.Β

It's definitely a lot more difficult to draw without the drawing pad--
but I find that most of the appeal comes from color choice and color placement.Β Β
The biggest downsides I can see areΒ
1. Not being able to transfer traditional muscle memory to digital
2. Blending is a bit more difficult
3. It takes longer
but those are probably just because I wasn't used to it.Β
