You definitely do a better job, the more "pro" the pencils are. Has to do with the artist thinking about his lighting. I can't really help with the colors, but I can with your lighting. God forbid I try and second guess Jim Lee. On a night time shot, I first try and think of where the moon is. kinda hard to with those buildings, the one on the right has a hard shadow on it's right side. and to make matters worse the building right below it has no shadow on it's right side, probably a "framing" thing, because of the figure and the shadow of the roof top on the right. But I think Jim really just wanted to light this with the city it self. In a night time city shot, one of the light source should be coming from the bottom. The roof top on the right, the ledge under doc ocks knee, deeper shadows on the top side of the tentacles, the fade lines on the buildings middle bottom of the page. They all kind tell me main light source. So try a brighter color on the bottom of the page.
