As mentioned in my journal the other night, I’m putting Princess of Psykron on hold for now. I’m not canceling the comic outright; I just want to build up a backlog of pages. I’m hoping to get it going again by next month. As always, I’ll keep you updated on my progress.

In the meantime, I’ll still be posting Princess of Psykron material, even if it’s not necessarily the comic itself. Let’s start by taking a look at J-3V, Krya Vom-Za’s robot servant and sidekick (so to speak).

J-3V was once part of a series of consumer-grade personal assistant robots, which were very common in the Ancients’ time on planet Oath. But after the cataclysm that shattered the Oathans’ civilization and divided them into Psykronians and Pyraqs, much of the Ancients’ advanced technology was lost.

It wasn’t until thousands of years later that an excavation team acting on behalf of the Psykronian royal family discovered and restored J-3V. It has faithfully served the Psykronian royal family for generations ever since.

In particular, King Varkon entrusted J-3V to look after his daughter Princess Krya and keep her safe. The robot helped Krya flee from the Pyraqs and escape to Earth. Now J-3V spends most of its time cleaning and tidying up Tucker’s apartment, preparing meals, and giving advice and assistance to Krya and/or Tucker when needed.

J-3V sometimes gets paranoid about Krya’s safety and has a rigid mindset. Nevertheless, it is very protective of Krya and is unquestionably loyal to her (as well as her friends & family).

J-3V is programmed with a variety of protocols; chief among are being cooking, household maintenance, security, and healthcare. It has a 500-petabyte memory, including anatomical diagrams of Krya for medical purposes and extensive knowledge of other aliens and planets. It can access the Internet and communicate through smartphones and other high-tech devices. It can scan objects down to the molecular level for scientific analysis. Its sensors employ anti-gravitational fields to lift objects and utilizes Oathan nanotechnology to “scan” objects clean. J-3V can even conjure up force fields to protect Krya and/or Tucker, fire lasers at attackers, and hack into lesser machines to override their programming.

But to remain functional, J-3V must regularly power down for precisely 7 hours a day, and no outside stimuli can force it to re-activate for any reason. Should this happen during a battle, Krya is effectively on her own. And frankly, J-3V is no substitute for Krya’s power and combat prowess (that’s why J-3V is the sidekick). But the way I see it, 7 hours of downtime is a small price to pay for such an invaluable robot companion.
