THE STORY CONTINUES AT C0MMANDOS
C0MMANDOS
NEW BEGINNINGS
This group is no longer active. Below is a summary of COMMAND0S 's final arc. However, the story does not end! Check us out at !
THREE LEADS
Operation Ariadne’s Thread was, ultimately, a partial success. The Special Division failed to prevent the destruction of Jamenson Cove, but uncovered crucial information about the activities of the BoA.
Project Panhu
In New Orleans, the Air Force uncovered a BoA laboratory hidden at Eukanuba dog food factory, securing a lab rat used in research for Project Panhu. During this investigation they encountered the highly advanced AI Lenore, which was being used by BoA for security and administrative purposes. After suffering heavy casualties from the security system, which left nearly a quarter of the division bedridden at the local hospital, their investigation was interrupted by an unknown woman assumed to be a BoA agent. She took something from the lab and fled, but not before releasing one of the Project Panhu test subjects, which severely injuring Dick Lauvel and forcing the division to abort the operation and seek medical aid. Several days later, the members of AF who had not been injured returned to the facility, only to find it totally emptied.
Lenore
While recovering in the hospital, the Special Division was attacked by BoA. Impersonating nurses, waiters, and nondescript strangers, they attempted simultaneous assassination attempts on various members of the AF, all unsuccessful. In no position to fight for their lives, the AF was forced to flee New Orleans for Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, where they would reconvene with the Navy Division.
On the way, following newly received intelligence, the Air Force stopped to investigate an abandoned power plant housing another BoA facility. They encountered Lenore again, however a discrepancy in the AI’s code made its behavior erratic, aiding as much as harming them in their investigation. They were interrupted by the unexpected arrival of Eric Halloway, a lead researcher for BoA, who initiated a self-destruct sequence in the facility before attempting to flee. The self-destruction was averted using the AI’s faulty code, and Halloway was captured and brought to Maxwell for later interrogation.
Marines
In Washington, D.C.,the Marines investigated the home of alleged BoA investor Roland Callahan with the aid of Sgt. Jeffords and the Metropolitan Police Department. After initially being turned away due to a voided search warrant, the SD snuck in only to discover a sinkhole leading to an underground tunnel system. Spotted by guards, they had no choice but to follow the tunnels where they encountered armed men unloading crates of vials of a pale yellow liquid.
While attempting to make out the contents, Clark MacIver was spotted, beginning a shootout which injured Mishel Beckett, division head of the Marines. After successfully incapacitating the hostiles, the Marines searched the bodies, and Reed Strom found an address for a local warehouse. They continued through the tunnels until they came to an underground nightclub. Opting to investigate, they entered a backroom containing several more crates and a safe. Unfortunately, their attempts to break into the safe set off an alarm, forcing them to flee the club.
To celebrate the success of the mission, Sgt. Jeffords invited the Marines to a restaurant for hot chicken wings in the apparent tradition of the PD. They were told that the club was being raided at this very moment, and that the warehouse would be investigated soon. At some point during their conversation, Jeffords showed the Marines the photos of his family in his wallet, where they noticed a business card for Bugs Be Gone, a pesticide company whose truck they had seen outside the Callahan residence, and which allegedly regularly treated his property. Suspecting something amiss, the Marines contrived an excuse to escape, and immediately went to search the club. Arriving there, they found that it had vanished.
Suspecting a betrayal by Jeffords, the Marines headed to investigate the warehouse, where they found Callahan in the adjacent building. Catching the SD by surprise, he set loose the same creatures encountered previously by the AF, and after setting the building aflame, fled. With the entrances inaccessible, the Marines had no choice but to run upstairs. They reached the roof just in time to catch Callahan escaping in a helicopter. A miraculous shot by Clark brought the helicopter down, killing Callahan.
Afterwards, the Marines successfully raided the warehouse, securing evidence and arresting 12 men. Unfortunately, they failed to capture Jeffords, real name Robert Heinz. Their objective complete, the Marines left D.C. for North Carolina, where they would stay at the home of Samuel Roth, one of the Marines, to await the arrival of the Air Force and Navy.
Navy
Navy’s investigation took them to Las Vegas, Nevada. Posing as tourists, they stayed at the Venetian which was allegedly scheduled to host a highly exclusive, highly secretive meeting for the rich and powerful, which they were to infiltrate in search of Naoki Arakawa, another alleged investor in the BoA’s research. Asking around the casino, they learned that to gain admission to the party, they needed to somehow procure a special gaming chip marked with a curled up snake.
Some members of the Navy managed to earn chips off of legitimate patrons, a handful attempted to sneak into the party by distracting the guard. Although they nearly sabotaged the entire operation and received several injuries, they managed to incapacitate the guard and impersonate him. Emiri Eun, locating another patron of the party, knocked him out by drugging his drink, and recovered both his chip and cell phone, containing only one number, and photos of a terrified, bound young woman.
Meanwhile, the division head of the Navy, Raul Salinas, encountered a strange woman in a grey dressat the poker table, who seemed to know precisely who they were and what they were there for. Appearing amused by their attempts, and perhaps charmed by the Navy division head himself, she allowed him to accompany her to the party as her plus one.
Once inside the party, Raul managed to locate and place a tracking/audio transmitting device on Arakawa without being discovered. Thanks to this, they were able to listen in on Arakawa’s meeting with the woman AF had encountered in their first visit to the Eukanuba facility, learning that Arakawa was to receive a ‘sample’ of the results of the BoA’s most recent research.
Their objective complete, the Navy retired for the night. The next evening, while relaxing, they intercepted a transmission on the radio Ming Ho had taken from the incapacitated guard the night before. The BoA had discovered them and were preparing for a raid on their rooms. Taking advantage of this forewarning, the Navy grabbed their most important belongings, and fled the hotel. In an attempt to destroy the evidence of the research he and Ming Ho had done into the woman on the phone, Emiri Eun set fire to his room. This led to an evacuation of the hotel, into which the Navy managed to blend to mask their escape. However, now hunted by both the BoA and the Las Vegas authorities as arsonists, they were forced to hide in the tunnels beneath Las Vegas to regroup and plan their next move.
Thanks to the tracker, they learned that the BoA had moved Arakawa to the Trump International, where he would supposedly receive the promised sample. The Navy decided to infiltrate the investor’s new residence, steal the sample, then leave Las Vegas in a bus they had purchased from one of the homeless men they had met in the tunnels.
A small group followed Arakawa to listen in on his second meeting with the woman from New Orleans, where they learned that Arakawa was traveling first to Alabama, and from there to a northern BoA facility to observe a ‘field test’ of Project Panhu The mission at Trump International went almost flawlessly, and the Navy secured two vials of different liquids. From there, they traveled to Alabama to meet with the Air Force.
The gathered evidence and interrogation of Eric Halloway revealed that Project Panhu was a successor to Project Wyrm. BoA had developed a parasite capable of infecting and lying dormant in a target until activated by a special drug, which triggers the rapid growth of the parasite along the host’s spinal column. Impossible to remove and causing unbearable pain only controlled by injecting the stimulator drug, the Panhu Parasite would begin altering the host’s body chemistry into the ideal environment for its growth and reproduction to produce a modified form of the superacid Fluoranium hexafluorostibanuide, turning the host into an unwilling bioweapon. The Project’s primary subjects were canines (specifically greyhounds) which the SD encountered in both the Eukanuba facility and the Washington D.C. warehouse.
Only days later, BoA launched its attack on Jamenson Cove. The Panhu dogs set loose on the small company town caused widespread destruction, the acid spread by them destroying infrastructure and causing several injuries and deaths. The regular soldiers of Thurmont along with the SD were called to respond to the attack, and arrived to help with the relief effort.
As they worked to rescue trapped and injured civilians, they encountered both Panhu dogs and BoA operatives. Although the dogs could be killed easily by a well placed gunshot, it was discovered that their blood was highly acidic, and could do just as much damage in death as in life. After successfully rescuing trapped civilians and incapacitating two of the dogs--at the cost of severe bodily harm to themselves-the SD regrouped at the nearby church.
While tending to their wounded, they were ambushed by the BoA. After engaging in a brief firefight resulting in both deaths and casualties, they were interrupted by the sudden collapse of the floor where one of the Panhu dogs had damaged the infrastructure. Luckily, most of the SD’s fall was cushioned by an underground lake, while the BoA had the misfortune to land on hard ground and be crushed by the rubble.
Returning to the surface via a second, nearby sinkhole, Emiri Eun was captured by a BoA operative, who used a syringe containing the Panhu parasite to hold him hostage and keep the rest of the SD at bay. Once they had been disarmed, the BoA men showed them a transmission from Eric Halloway, who had been left in custody at Thurmont. He explained the manifesto of the BoA, portraying it as an organization bent on shaping a new world order, and that the demonstration at Jamenson Cove had afforded him an opportunity to escape from Thurmont.
Once the transmission ended, one of the two BoA men began demanding to know about Abel, a BoA operative captured by the SD in an earlier operation. While Milo distracted him by attempting to answer the questions, Jericho took advantage of the man’s lapse in focus to attack him with a knife, killing him. Not willing to be captured, the second BoA operative took his own life. Observing that his blood had begun to dissolve the ground as it touched it, the SD concluded that he had been infected with the Panhu Parasite.
Second Chances
Unfortunately, the bureaucratic elements of the military--and surrounding government--did not feel that the operation’s successes outweighed its failures. Deeming the Special Division ineffective, Commander Remington was informed of the immediate dissolution of the program and provided with a list of individuals that were to be turned over into government custody to be ‘dealt with.’
The Commander refused to comply. He insisted that the Special Division was still a worthwhile investment and promised improved performance in the future. He had reviewed the information uncovered during Operation Ariadne’s Thread, and things simply did not add up. He wasn’t ready to let this fight go, not when he felt they were so close to the truth.
Thanks to various pulled strings and old favors, the Special Division was allowed to remain, but not without certain conditions. For one, it would henceforth be subject to increased scrutiny, and members deemed unfit for retention would be removed with or without the Commander’s cooperation. For another, its future members would be selected not by the Northshore Commandos, but by the government committee created to ensure the Special Division the time and effort required to sustain it, from military and civilian campuses across the country.
Now pawns in an ever expanding and convoluted game, the members of the Special Division are left with several questions. Who are the BoA, really? Could they really be just terrorists bent on establishing a New World Order? If they are, what precisely is their plan? And if they aren’t, what do they want and why have they gone to such lengths to hide it? Why attack Jamenson Cove, a small, inconsequential town no one had ever heard of? And perhaps more pressingly, what comes next for the Special Division?
The story continues at C0MMANDOS
This group will be maintained as an archive of the the Special Division’s earliest incarnation, while the battle with the SD’s enemies (both BoA and otherwise) continues on the new group with all new mechanics, characters, and more. We hope to see you there!
