Description
The Mayan calendar was a sophisticated dating system used by the ancient Mayan civilization. It served as the foundation for all other calendars employed by Mesoamerican civilizations. The system of the calendar consisted of repeated cycles of different lengths which marked the equivalents of weeks, months, years and a long date count. With the arrival of the conquistadores much knowledge about it was lost, however some scribes of the Aztec people serving the conquerors were able to preserve a bit of the ancient knowledge of their people.
