Description
Would you believe it if I told you that our Carmen has found herself a man?
As in, a boyfriend - a PROPER boyfriend? One that doesn’t look uncomfortable whenever she’s near? And would you also believe me if I told you that guy was Roscoe?
It was official; much to the relief of all the other boys in town, the sultry rabbit had hitched up with the moody stallion. Well, you’d think that everyone was relieved, at least. The mayor was minorly annoyed that Roscoe had managed to get a girlfriend in such a short amount of time, but if someone were to best him at jumping off cliffs, he’d be mad about that too.
Carmen had set her sights on Roscoe almost immediately, dressing up in similarly punk-ish attire and making sure to discuss all of her favourite metal albums that she had never listened to with him. Roscoe has the sort of personality where he’s happy to go along with whatever comes his way. Getting with Carmen seemed like a good way to amuse himself while he was here, but he still seemed to be genuinely enjoying her company all the same.
It kinda made sense, he and she. While their energy levels were quite different, they both shared a carefree attitude and have a keen eye for style. When I had interviewed Carmen a few months ago as part of my investigations, she had revealed that the reason she came to this town was for the promise of cute boys. She was waiting for the right man to come around. I was happy for her, in a weird way.
I sat with them in The Roost. Usually, I roll my eyes at Carmen’s pointless flirting, but it was nice to see her focused on only one animal for a change. Roscoe looked happy too. When we first met, I took him for the kind of guy who didn’t want to socialise much while he was living here. I suppose Carmen must have won him over. Somehow.
“Not to drop a bombshell,” Carmen started, speaking entirely in giggles, “but we’ll be moving away from this place next month!”
“Really?” I said, eyes widening in that faux-excitement sorta way.
Carmen nodded happily, I suppose she was gonna do most of the talking. “I mean, Rossy was already planning to move on soon, but since he’s stuck with ME now, I’ll be high tailing out of Place too. But we’re DEFINITELY staying for Halloween. There’s no way that I’m missing out on that!”
I hadn’t even realised that tomorrow was October 1st.
It barely felt like autumn. Or maybe I was just losing track of time.
“I suppose waiting paid off, huh?” I smiled at her. Carmen looked puzzled, so I elaborated. “You know? You came here for the boys and were waiting for somebody hot to turn up?”
Carmen blushed and let out a big burst of laughter.
“Shut up, Alice!” she exclaimed. “You make me sound so thirsty!”
“That’s ‘cuz you are,” chuckled Roscoe, his first words of the date.
Carmen stuck her tongue out and repeated what he said in a funny voice.
“You know, I was TRICKED into coming here! N-not that I wouldn’t move to Place on my own accord, sure, but it was Becky that told me that this village was hot dude heaven!”
“Hot dude what?” asked Roscoe incredulously, which made me start laughing.
“Nothing!” grinned Carmen, giving her boyfriend a light jab on the arm. “Oh my gosh! How have I NOT told you about that little pink creep from a few months ago?! Alice, tell him about all that super cool detective work you did!”
Having suddenly found myself in the role of storyteller, I told Roscoe all about the entire Vladimir saga, with Carmen chipping in with her own additional comments.
Ah, young love.
It was a nice change of pace to see somebody move to Place in search of one thing, be initially disappointed, but then happily leave with exactly what they wanted. We still had a whole month or so of Carmen left, and anything could happen in that time with the life she leads, but I was already wishing her all the best.
And, who knows?
Maybe that’s it.
Maybe I need to find someone…
~Author’s Notes~
Love is certainly blooming in Place lately.
Do any of you remember that during the long gap between New Leaf and New Horizons that a large amount of people wanted dating to be introduced in the next Animal Crossing? I used to be all for that, but nowadays I think it would be a little trite.
