Another mermaid to add to my growing collection! (Yes I am aiming towards something with both mermaids & fairies
) I may never change, I may always love to paint mermaids, fairies, unicorns, and other fantasy creatures, its what I do...Its what I love 
Lost a lot on this one when I shrunk it down to post on DA, so there will definetly be a detailed shot put up w/in the next couple hours I hope.
This started as a background, I created an underwater scene in Vue 5 (3d) using the ruins/fish/plants, pretty basic stuff. I rendered the dolphin seperate from the scene, but he was also done in Vue 5, however, he had no eyes, and he was a flat very boring grey, so he got a paint over, as well as some bits of the background, tons of highlighting added & shadows.

This was 13+ hours in Photoshop, plus 3+ hours in Vue 5.
Mist brushes - `spiritsighs some bubbles *michmellow
Some bubbles were hand drawn as well.
Go easy on her, this was not an easy piece, in fact it was quite a challenge, underwater is sometimes quite difficult to pull off, and I am still not sure its right, I am sure there is lots wrong with her, but alas, she is now finished because I cannot stand to work on her anymore right now, maybe ever! LOL

This is really beautiful, very well done, however maybe it is just me, my crap eyesight, but the dolphin's eye does not look to be in the right place... It would have to be in an eye socket which would be in it's scull. Maybe some photo's would make certain. Roz X

I love how her scales keep her decent. I've always wondered how Ariel could manage with that flimsy, strapless shell bra. Where did she find shells so big? Why were they purple?

That looks awesome! The dolphin eye seems a bit far back. I love her hair and the way you have the scails colored! Hey, if its what you love to do, why stop or doing something you like less?

OMG this picture is Gorgeous, the detailing of the Mermaids scales and the pearls are just beautiful. I at first thought that the dolphins eye was back too far but after searching the web for pictures I find that its not. Anyway it is a very Beautiful peace of art and I am definatly going to fav it.

Gorgeous. I like the addition of scales to the breast. Don't see that very often. I'm a huge fan of the legend of Atlantis and this is a wonderful rendition of it. Great work.

This is one delicately beautiful piece
13 hours is a long time to perfect this but it has definately paid off
I especially noticed the way the hair flows within the water
And also the defined bubbles around the dolphin's tale
Another aspect I reallt love is how the mermaid's tale is transparent and colour detailed
Her scales and arm jewels slo really suit the piece

I think you pulled off the underwater well. Although all the fish and dolphins swimming about all but yell "THIS IS UNDERWATER". I especially like how made the mermaids top scales instead of the sterotypical seashells.
The only thing that rubs me the wrong way is her shadow specifically her fin. Her tail fin is almost transparent, but the shadow is just as dark as everything that is almost opaque. I'm not sure if this is artistic lisence or after 13 hours you tend not to notice such things.
With every piece you post I continue to be amazed. The stuff you do (Unicorns, fairies, mermaids, elves etc) is what I got into art for and can't wait until I get some of these ideas out of my head and painted.

I really like this one, it's very beautiful! I love dolphins and mermaids! I really like that you put scales on her chest to almost make it look like she has a shirt or something. It's a really nice touch. It always bugs me when artists do mermaids with no tops at all. You did a great job! *thumbs up*
