Description
In the later part of autumn, a lone but cheerful man rolled into town, ready for a new future. However, this man would come to find that such a future in this place would not be so bright with the way the neighbors treated one another. On every street and every sidewalk, folks had only venom and spite on their tongues to share. A socially fractured community. One night in this new life, the man payed a visit to the town's local church in hopes of curing the ill on this town once and for all. He sat himself in one of the many pews, jaded hands joined together, his eyes shut with belief, his heart opened. Escaping from his lips, a prayer for unity. To bring this town together and forever more.
Days passed over the town, and change indeed took root. Every windy and damp day of this transitional season, neighbors would flock to the local markets and stores, stripping the meat sections clean like vultures to carrion. They would drain the grocery stores so, but not a piece of these cuts would ever meet a human mouth. Instead, for some peculiar reason, the townsfolk found it appropriate to gather these meals at the center of town square. Without grace or consideration, these meats were torn from their packaging and dropped into one grand pile. No animal, fly, or even rot would ever touch this free meal. The flesh would only sit there as the townsfolk proceeded to exercise on their odd new tradition.

The social exchange amongst the locals would only sour ever further. Bitter remarks would devolve into full force screaming matches in the streets. Petty tricks would mutate into unforgivable sabotages. The town had been a foul place to live, and now it descended into something far more twisted. Things escalated beyond the pale when locals began to go missing, only to show up days later on the pile of meat in town square. Their bodies had barely a scratch, and remained as such.
Investigations into this grim matter were enacted, yet supported with barely an effort as the local law was no less vile in their temper than the rest of the citizens. In time, the culprits tore down the veil of their actions to reveal that none was free of blame. Blood painted the town red as knives and fists and guns fractured the foundations of whatever community there had been. Violence slashed through the streets, as the mountain of meat grew to it's final size.

About a week later, a lone but cheerful man rolled into town, ready for a new future. He was on his way to a distant place, however his car was in dire need of a refuel to continue the journey. He had heard of a town not far off his route, and made a small detour with the help of a map. The car moved slowly through the silent streets riddled with cold hollow buildings while the sun provided light to a stretch of land that no longer had need of it.
As the man drove through the streets, he felt a pull in his heart. A warm sense of belonging and love. He knew so little of this town, let alone the history, yet felt entirely at home. His heart took the wheel for him now, and guided the man to the source of this inviting sensation until the vehicle found itself at the entry point of town square. Just for a moment, the man felt sentimentality for what he saw at the center of this place, but terror was a strong enough power in the human form to shatter the spell.
A mountain of shapes. A pulsating peak held together with forms no longer human, and webs of sinew stringing across the nearby buildings. Teeth gnashed, veins slithered, and eyes twitched across the pink form, glistening in the sunlight. The man may not see it so, but the town had come together, in the only way it could.
Happy Halloween!
