Description

Please read the breed's history first.

The Constantinople Pacer descended from the Nisean horse, the Arravani horse, and the Andravida horse. Influence also came from Arabians, Oriental breeds, the Russian Don, the Kabarda, the Klepper, the Marwari, the Nangchen, the Riwoche, the Sorraia, and the Alter Real. The breed developed a unique lateral two-beat gait - or pace - called the     incessus     through breeding for harness racers, but they can also be taught to do an ambling gait instead of the pace. Constantinople Pacers were commonly used in chariot or harness races at the Hippodrome. They were also popular choices for warhorses because of their bold but calm and collected nature. As a result of the breed’s history with war and combat, in modern-day times, these horses can often be seen working as police mounts. Constantinople Pacers also excel in dressage and quadrille, jereed (a traditional Turkish sport), and any other discipline that requires a horse to be intelligent, brave, and quick to respond.
