“Watch it, sister!””Whoa, whoa, whoa, ladies. Easy, Black Cat, she’s one of us.”
”If she’s a friend, she shouldn’t come skulking up behind me.”
“If I wasn’t a friend, you’d’ve never known I was there.”
”Okay, calm down. You’re both rough-and-tumble hellcats, no denying, but how about I make the introductions and you two make friends. Black Cat, may I introduce the Woman In Red.”
“That’s some moniker.”
”That’s some bathing suit.”
“Why you-!”
”Red, the Black Cat here is one of the best crime fighters L.A. has produced.”
”That’s not saying much. Who else do they have? That rocket guy who used to fly around with the bucket on his head?”
“And, Cat, I know you’re from a different time-zone, but a little respect is due to this gal here. She’s one of New York’s finest.”
“Like a cop?”
”Very much like one.”
”But I would very much like to know what brought you here tonight, Red, and why you were spying on Detective Carey and I on the roof just a few moments ago.”
“You knew I was up there?”
”She’s got-“
”Right. She’s got ‘cat senses,’ I know. Miss Fury and I have crossed paths before. Well, I wasn’t playing Peeping Tom for kicks, Fury; I just know that when Carey heads to the roof, that usually means a meet with you. And that also means there’s likely a case that might interest the Woman In Red. But, don’t worry, I heard just enough to know we had shared interests. I ducked back downstairs once you two started with the lip lock.”
”What? You mean I was waiting down here in the car while you were making time with your detective friend?”
”Not that much time-“
”Long enough for me to change out of my work duds and into my play clothes and make it into the alley here-“
”Okay, but, in my defense, Dan is a very good kisser.”
”I can’t attest to that. But as for why I suited-up and allowed myself to be put in a choke hold by the bathing beauty over here, let me just say that something you brought up to Detective Carey rang a bell for me. He may not know of any suspicious plane landings around here, but I do. I think I can lead you to your kidnappers!”
