dA Emoticon: Cuddle

Just a little piece I stitched up for the Crafted Emoticon Contest for ^projecteducate 's Artisan Crafts Week .

This little guy was stitched with DMC cotton embroidery floss on 14-count light green Aida from Charles Craft (which is so close to dA green that it's almost scary). Finished size is 1 5/8 inches wide by 1 1/8 inches tall. Total stitching time was 3.5 hours, almost all of which was done while in the Artisan Crafts chatroom on June 10th.

Design-wise this piece was directly adapted from the "cuddle" emoticon. Only full cross stitch is used in this design, so it's really quite simple. The shaded effect was achieved by blending the floss in the needle, going from light, to a light-medium blend, to medium, to a medium-dark blend, etc.
