Description
"I want Father!" Emma Grey cried.
"I know, Emma," I said as I hugged the little girl.
Her father, Lord Victor Grey, had been found dead this morning.
"Get him!" Emma cried.
"Let me go talk to your mother, I'll see what I can do, alright?" I said.
Emma nodded.
I tucked the little girl into bed and left to go to Lady Grey's room.
She wasn't as upset as someone who had lost their husband ought to have been.
"How are you, Lady Grey?" I asked.
"Fine, Marie," she told me.
"Can I get you anything? Tea? Coffee?"
"No."
There was a knock at the door. I left the room to go open the door. Two large officers stood at the door.
"How may I help you?" I asked.
"Marie Parker?" one asked.
I nodded. "Yes."
"You are under arrest for the murder of Lord Victor Grey."
They pulled my hands behind my back and started to put shackles on my wrists.
"Lady Grey!" I called.
Lady Grey rushed into the room with Emma and her siblings, Alexander, Maxwell, Anne, Madeline and James.
"Lady Grey, please!" I begged. "They believe I murdered Lord Grey."
Emma stepped forward and hugged my legs.
"You didn't murder Father, did you Marie?" Emma asked.
I shook the officers off and kneeled down to Emma's height.
"Emma, this all a misunderstanding. I'll be back soon." I reassured Emma.
Emma put her arm around my neck. I kissed her cheek.
The officers started taking off my shoes and put shackles around my ankles. They pulled e up and dragged me to the cart outside to take me to prison.
I started crying terrified and alone.
