collaboration withthis was one of the extra fun ones because we worked on an original. i mailed my half to him and he finished it.
we're both really happy with this one!

yes yes yes! so many of my works have meanings way underneath the surface, but people pick up on the feeling pretty often. self expression is wild!!!!
when i was so sick with endometriosis and then had a hysterectomy, i have a lot of womb paintings. i didn't intend to paint that, but that's what came out.
i like to paint fast sometimes because then you can see the artist's movements of their hands and arms!

I was browsing through a Frida Kahlo art book the other day, and she painted a lot about her life and feelings. Some paintings are very strong, emotionally. If you haven't seen them (you probably saw the self-portraits, I don't mean those) you might want to check them out. Just out of curiosity.

i know exactly what you mean. i, too, have a big kahlo coffee table book! it is very important to me because my father bought it for me at a Khalo exhibition! i live in the San Francisco Bay Area and for my birthday we usually go to SFMOMA. i love it! once when my dad came to visit they wanted to go, we all really wanted to see her paintings! it was just amazing, i'm sure you can imagine.
afterwards my dad bought the book from the museum store.
a lot of her paintings speak to me.

I have a copy of a book that is a copy Frida Kahlo's journal - and they did a *great* job of reproducing it. In it she wrote her thoughts, sketched, did watercolors, it's an amazing book. Of course, she wrote in Spanish, but in the back of the book they translated all her Spanish into English, so you can follow what she's writing. Even the way she wrote was artistic. It's one of my fave art books - as much as i love her paintings, the experience of delving into her journal and being consumed by her work is beyond amazing.

Oh, I loved reading about your experience. You're much more Kahlo savyy than I am! But your anecdote just reminded me of her.
Oh, and speaking of San Francisco, please do yourself an art favor and look up artist Lindsey Kustusch. I think she's having an exhibition in SF these days. I LOVE what she does. Let's see if you agree!

thanks for all the requests hunnybunny! i submitted it to soulcollectors, hope that's ok, i think that's more your territory than mine. it's funny, there's sort of unwritten rule as to who submits our collabs to which groups. not so bad with this since i have all these abstract/painting groups that you don't put your stuff in and i know you have a bunch you regularly submit to that i don't.
