Dedicated as a Birthday to:

To Lead Me HomeThe stains on my eyelids,
Dripped down to trickle past aching teeth.
They tasted like traces of tea and mints,
Mixed with confusion and self doubting grief,
These late nights are filled with dreaming as if somewhere rest exists.
I lifted my fingers like a dancer on the stage,
Poising for the breathless crowd waiting in anticipation.
But the theatre is empty now and the spotlights fade,
Now the shadows come to life and whisper of their own creation.
Their feet clatter on the floorboards demanding a beautiful charade.
And I dance for beings who don't belong in this life.
The friction is bloodying my skin but they still want more.
I try to search for ideas to amuse their incessant cries.
And I start to forget the reasons I'm racing for.
I don't realize and yet I do that these are the deathly fingerprints of night.
The temperature is rising on the furnace beneath my spinning heels.
Liquid metal drips down like tears from a leaden sky.
Twin doorways lead inward to where a world of glass tot
