Description
Well for years I have been an atheist and this is the first piece I have chosen to post depicting my views. I am not looking for a flame war at all. In my mind however, religion is an outdated system which was originally established in order to control the uneducated, fearful populous who did not know better thus made them easier to control. Now instead of spreading love or tolerance no greater tool has thus far been created to derive hate and division within the world. I quite frankly don't care what a person's individual beliefs are, but my ire is dedicated towards those individuals that attempt to push their views on others or otherwise limit the freedom of another (within the boundaries of law, ie I would not condone sacrificial practices). I don't believe law should be made to enforce religion. Here in America it was clearly defined that religion should not be allowed to penetrate into state and yet it does whether it be prayers or even on the currency itself religion has penetrated the country. The deepest of my animosity goes towards those who use the bible as a justification for homophobia or otherwise banning the practice of such things. If a person's belief system says they cannot be gay then...well quite frankly homosexuality is not a choice therefore you can not choose...but if faith is stronger than your love, then don't practice it, but what kind of person is it that attempts to deny others of their quintessential rights because it violates some ancient words written in the world's best selling fiction book. People follow the word of the bible or any religious text unquestioningly and as in a very real real sense become a flock, as only sheep need a Shepperd. The persecution of those who have differing views or attempt to rationalize the world instead of believing some omniscient bares sole responsibility for its creation is an intolerable practice of the church as it seeks to extinguish the progressive ideas of an ever changing society. If anyone does wish to discuss this further, I am more than happy to *calmly* discuss views, but will not participate in any sort of flame war on the subject manner as it is completely counter-productive and will result in no benefit for anyone.Related content

Im sorry you see religion as something that breaks people, and restiricts them entirely. I have before
questioned my own faith, so I semi-understand what you may think about religion in general. That is is far to old to possibley
mean anything of importance, it is written by people who made these things up to fool others, or possibley comfort themselves
of a certain not-knowing of things unfathomable. Of at least that's what i thought. But I'm stronger now in my faith.
Im not trying to change you in by means, that for me, is an impossible thing. Somthing I can not do.
I was only curious, because i've always wondered this myself, what do athiests believe happens after death, and how do they
believe the universe came into being?
I had a few athiest friends a while beck, sadly we lost touch, but I always ment to ask them these questions,
I just never got up the nerve to do so.
& im so sorry for the wall of text,
i type a bit wordy sometimes

Thanks, I really wanted this piece to make an impact instead of a series of subtle remarks.

i understand the entire thing and in my opinion you are right and i question the stupidity of devoting my life, time, and money, to a book and its teachings which, could, possibly have just been a story made to entertain a group of people. yet still, people flock to churches in compleate ignorance, and belief that the bible is entirely true. my parents for example, have devoted thier lives to a small church and beleive that the reason you have problems with your life when you go to church is because the devil is testing your love to thier all seeing god. my opinion is that its because MOST jobs would not allow you to have every sunday morning, sunday night, and wednesday night off of work, also you are giving your money to people who probly are just going to use the money for a new printing of thier book.

I know, especially given that there are multiple reinterpretations of it over time and given it was originally written in an ancient language there are so many mistranslations that can occur that people latch onto as justification for awful behavior. While I am a firm believer in Murphy's Law, but beyond that living one's life believing they are nothing more than pawns for powers...there is a saying you may enjoy:
βIs God willing to prevent evil, but not able?
Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing?
Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing?
Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God?β
The church was once a necessary evil, but now it is no longer necessary...Hopefully you will be able to get away from thought such as that and live as you see fit.

Well I am always glad to get some people thinking about things. Cogito Ergo Non Ovis, I think therefore I am not a sheep...Hopefully you are not forced into that for too much longer, but look at it this way, get enough people questioning their faith and maybe you won't be forced to go anymore just out of frustration of your parents.

Thanks, I am glad you see it that way. I try to not be seen as someone with baseless dislike, and given this society having a reason for a belief on things such of this is pretty much required to not be verbally crucified by people.

really the entire point of aithieism(is that even how you spell dat?) was to stand up to the christians that constantly tell people that they will go to hell for ALMOST anything. i have been told that if i EVER get merried or have children i will go to hell, by an old lady in a church.

I'm rather glad you like it. I do think the portrayal of the story is the most important aspect to this piece personally.
