Description

Team Fortress 2's artstyle is an undying classic that inspired many other game studios to change their approach when designing characters. Being able to draw such clean designs that perfectly balance between realism and stylization is my current goal. And for me, this Scout concept by Dhabih Eng is the quintessence of that approach. I tried to study this artwork and I had a lot of fun doing so. Especially because I went with a different workflow - I roughly sketched the mannequin in the correct pose and then started painting with the grayscale directly on top of that, sort of scultping the silhouette with a brush, instead of doing a detailed sketch and lineart. I'm actually really happy with how it turned out (depsite a too short torso), although obviously, I only copied what I see, I can't paint like that on my own. I also left him faceless, drawing faces is still a too high level for me.

I was supposed to be doing city scenes with one point perspective today, but I bloody hate drawing buildings and other inanimate objects and I got frustrated. So I painted a Scout.
