Description
Well, it's about time I finally got this up.
This is the first of three character and armour reference sheets I am doing for an upcoming Halo fan project. My ambition is to create a story around the Spartan IV Fireteam Luna-two of my own OCs, and one character imported from another fandom (with the author's permission). I first imagined this character back in February or March, and now I finally have enough information (and skill) to make him a proper, full on reference sheet. So, I present you all with the more or less finalised version of Spartan Thomas Bailey.
BACKGROUND
Thomas Bailey (Serial Number 19424-72019-TB) was born in Dover on the 17th April, 2527, to a building engineer Carman Bailey, and a UNSC Marine Terence Bailey (N.E.E. Hayden). Both of his parents taught him a great deal about their fields of craft, and he grew up during the early years of the Human-Covenant War. As a result of this, Thomas made the decision to join the UNSC Marines as a cadet at the age of 16, in 2543. Despite joining at a slightly older age than most of his peers, he quickly proved himself with a level head and a talent for making excellent tactical and strategic decisions during training exercises.
Thomas entered Active Service in May 2545, shortly after his 18th birthday. Almost immediately, he received his first taste of combat, being deployed during the Battle of Sargasso. Whilst evacuating civilians to a Landing Zone, he was ambushed by Grunts, and sustained third degree burns to the left arm and chest whilst acting as a shield to the fire, before dispatching them, and successfully bringing them to the evacuation craft. After this, he required a month to recover from his injuries, before being sent back into military service, promoted to a Lance-Corporal.
Thomas would later see action during both the first and second battles of the Colony world Meridian, prior to its glassing by the Covenant. He served with distinction during the long years of the campaign, earning himself a promotion to staff-sergeant, and his platoon numerous small ground victories. During the second battle, during a lull in the fighting, he met, and befriended, an ODST soldier whilst servicing her weapon, by the name of Raine Silverlock. (Character owned by Twokinds ) He would be evacuated shortly afterwards, and later stationed to the planet Sigma Octanus IV.
During the Covenant assualt on Sigma Octanus IV, Thomas, now a Lieutenant, would find his platoon cut off behind enemy lines. He led his men through heavy enemy resistance, successfully making it to the extraction point for evacuation, with every soldier still alive. While several had severe injuries, the fact that they were alive at all was testimony to his skill as a leader, as the Covenant had been brutal in their harrying attacks, and reviews of the helmet cam footage elicited responses that the men and women would otherwise have lost over half their number, if not been completely slaughtered. For this, Bailey was promoted to first Lieutnant, a position that he maintains to this day.
Transferred to Reach after the battle of Sigma Octanus IV, he would assist the Army in the assault on the Covenant control spires. Here he met Spartan II Jorge-052, who saved him after his Falcon was shot down, prior to his assistance of Noble Six later in the operation. Thomas would go on to destroy a Covenant anti-air column along with his platoon, two Grunt/Jackal mixed strike teams, a Brute kill team, and three Elite Captains. However, when it was clear that the planet was lost, he was evacuated to the UNSC Pillar of Autumn, and placed in Cryonic Stasis. His pod was ejected during the battle over Installation 04, Alpha Halo, and would be recovered by John-117 after the ring's destruction. During the Battle of Earth, he was stationed in UNSC HQ at Sydney, and participated in its defence before falling back to the bunker.
Following the end of the war, Spartan II Jun A-266 approached him in January, 2543, offering a place within the Spartan IV program, owing to his tactical acumen, and expertise in heavy weaponry and engineering. Thomas accepted, and would be among the top level Spartans within the first group. He was called to the new UNSC training station to provide help with the new batch of Spartan IVs in 2554, and re-encountered his old acquaintance, Raine Silverlock, now a member of the program. He also met and befriended trainee Luke Adams, an ex-Marine sergeant. Both Spartans would become close friends to him after the training.
Thomas was deployed during the first battle of Requiem as a member of Fireteam Taurus, providing artillery support to the Master Chief as he pushed towards the Forerunner Gravity Well. After this, he would be moved into a new Fireteam, Fireteam Luna, with Spartans Raine Silverlock and Luke Adams. He also participated during the second battle of Requiem, and has an impressive tally of successes.
PERSONALITY AND TRAITS
Thomas is a friendly and outgoing inividual. He cares deeply not only for his fellow soldiers, but for the logistics and support personell, and for the lives of any and all civilians encountered. He is talkative when off duty, almost to the point of being garralous. This is a coping mechanism for him, for some of the stresses he undergoes as a leader. He is greatly influenced by Spartan Jorge-052, who shared some of his views on the nature of a soldier during their short talk prior to the latter's departure to assist Noble Six in the assault on the Control spires. He is caring, and emphatic, to his fellow personnell, and holds disdain for Spartan Commander Palmer's dismissiveness of the rank-and-file marines and ODSTs, and the various scientists aboard Infinity. He believes that a person is defined by who they are and what they do, as opposed to rank and designation. This is a factor behind his close friendship with Spartan Raine Silverlock, who's unique shapeshifting capability brought a great deal of prejudice upon her; he sees her as a friend rather than a freak, something rare since she left her ODST squadron.
Thomas despises any form of prejudice, and has butted heads with Commander Palmer over her occasional bouts of arrogance and underestimation. However, when he is angry, he maintains a calm demeanour, bottling his rage up inside, and thus he is able to hold a reasonable argument as a result. However, occasionally, an event may trigger him to boiling point...God help you if you are on the recieving end. Because he will not hold back.
Thomas is also stubborn, due to his determined nature, which means that there are some issues on which he will not budge. This occasionally causes problems for the team, although he is generally able to recognise when he needs to compromise. He is sensible-by which I mean he is very, very definite. He also loves to read and listen to music in his off-duty time, and talk while doing so.
MILITARY SKILLS AND EQUIPMENT
Thomas is an excellent leader, and his skills have saved his platoon's life and his own many times. He knows which people to call on for certain tasks, and is an expert at delegating tasks to those best suited for the job. He is also well acquainted with heavy weaponry, with his weapon of choice being an M739 SAW Light machine gun. His skills as an engineer mean that he can fix most problems with weapons and vehicles within a short time, able to provide vital patchwork on the fly.
Thomas Bailey's Mjolnir armour is an amalgamation of parts made with the approval of numerous technicians aboard Infinity. The armour consists of a modified Centurion-class chestplate, with heavy-up-armouring around the back, and a storage compartment for ammunution, as well as a more powerful fusion reactor, leading to stronger shielding, combined with mark VI Arm and Leg plating, and a Gen1 Modified EOD Helmet. The armour features an improved command suite, and extensive strengthening to the skinsuit. As Bailey is a large man, even for a Spartan, he towers over his peers, being the approximate height of Spartan II Jorge-one of several similarities he shares with his role model.
I will soon be putting up reference sheets for Spartans Raine Silverlock (based on the character of the same name from the Webcomic Twokinds) and my other OC, Luke Adams. After this, I intend to start work on the comic, and will probably be posting up concept sketches and the like until I have at least a chapter or so ready. Until that time, I hope that you enjoy what is, with luck, the first chapter of something wonderful.
It's the start of a new adventure...one that I've been hoping to create for a long time...
Halo belongs to Microsoft and 343 Industries.
Thomas Bailey belongs to me.
UPDATE: Picture size was not quite right, re-set it to original size. Nice and big.
