Description

An image plus fanfic I made and wrote based on my Sonic What If AU: What If Dr. Eggman built Bass? An AU where, while creating Metal Sonic Dr. Eggman accidentally created a powerful energy source known as Bassnium and created a robot to harness this energy known as Bass. Basically the same character from the Mega Man series in almost every way, only he's part of the Sonic universe rather than Mega Man universe (See more here: www.deviantart.com/crossbattle… )

Basically all you need to know that isn't on there is that after Bass and his robotic wolf companion Treble took the place of Gamma in SA1 where he got Froggy and witnessed Tikal's vision to rebel against Eggman with inspiration from Amy, after destroying all the E-100 robots including an upgraded Gamma who had a buster like Bass and a sword arm alongside other things, he became his own robot and rebelled against Eggman. This then inspired Eggman to, instead of creating E-123 Omega as a successor to the E-100 line, he created a successor to Bass who exceeded Bass like Metal Sonic was to Sonic. This robot was Zero but Eggman still named him Omega since ZERO was the name of E-100 Alpha, however this Omega decided to give himself the name of Zero anyway to signify this was a new beginning for him with Team Dark.

Up until Sonic Forces, things went relatively similar to canon only with slight differences here and there due to Bass, Treble, and Zero. Up until Infinite creates his massive sun. Due note however that the Rookie is replaced by Bass who was recently reactivated after him and Treble were defeated by Infinite around the same time as Sonic. Also note that Zero was taken by Eggman alongside Sonic but not Bass who he saw as worthless compared to his true masterpiece.

Infinite is in a glitch-like state on the ground before Sonic and Bass after having been dealt a powerful blow from the two working together.

Infinite: Impossible. I cannot be defeated.

Sonic: Wrong, loser! The things that can't be defeated are heart, soul, and the bonds of friendship. Three things you and your counterfeit cronies lack!

Bass: You also threw aside everything in pursuit of power. Believe me, I know what that's like, if you truly think you are the strongest, someone stronger will always come along and prove you wrong. And even if you were the strongest, then what? Being the top dog in the world, being the absolute pinnacle of power, being the most powerful Eggman creation ever? That sounds like it would get boring quickly and it will only leave you empty and hollow in the end. In fact... (He looks down to the ground) If it wasn’t for Sonic and his friends, I might have ended up just like you, delusional and alone.

Infinite pounds his fist on the ground in frustration at Sonic and Bass's truth, before finding himself being lifted into the air against his will.

Infinite: (Struggles to stand up) No, wait! I can still fight!

After a couple more strained gasps as he continues to struggle against the force working against him, Infinite fades away and his Phantom Ruby prototype is dragged off to an unknown location. Sonic and Bass look at each other, puzzled. Bass merely then stares in the direction of where Infinite was moments ago before he and Sonic turn their attention forward as Dr. Eggman approaches the duo in his Egg Mobile.

Dr. Eggman: You two never fail to surprise me. I didn't believe Infinite could lose. But victory will be so much sweeter when I defeat you. Don't think this is over yet, you blue nuisance. My plan just went into overtime!

Sonic, Bass, and Treble land on the ground after leaping out of the Central Tower followed by destroying the Phantom Ruby reactor. They wave to the incoming Tails and Classic Sonic.

Sonic: We did it! Eggman's army is officially butt-kicked! We won!

Sonic attempts to fist bump Tails, but they are interrupted by a small earthquake. Bass grits his teeth and scowls as they look around for the source of the interruption as Sonic begins to groan.

Sonic: Oh, come on! Now what? Can't we ever just win and have that be the end of it?

Bass: Does Eggman ever just accept defeat gracefully?

Tails: Look!

Dr. Eggman emerges from a cloud of smoke with the Death Egg Robot with a mysterious figure floating beside the head.

Dr. Eggman: Gotcha! The fortress reactor was just a decoy. A true winner always keeps his trump card hidden until the end.

Vector: (Over radio) Sonic, what's going on? There aren't less enemies! There's MORE!

Tails: What?

Bass: (Stares into the smoke as his eyes widen) Impossible. It’s...

Amy: (Over radio) How could there be so many?

Rouge: (Over radio) Confirmed sightings indicate Shadow, Metal Sonic, Zavok, Chaos, Infinite... Thousands of them!

Sonic: What have you done!? (Classic Sonic grits his teeth in anger.)

Dr. Eggman: Mwa-hahaha! I merely added the Phantom Ruby into my Plan B should Infinite fail. Or should I call it Plan Omega?

Sonic: Plan Omega? Wait, does that mean!?

From the smoke emerges a familiar figure, it was Zero. Fully repaired and functional, only the Phantom Ruby now replaced the once familiar blue gem on the front of his helmet.

Dr. Eggman: You may have taken out most of my energy sources for the Phantom Ruby. But what if I connected it to a power source that had an unlimited supply of energy? Then the Phantom Ruby’s power would be limitless!

Bass: (Bass’s face turns to a scowl) Bassnium…

Dr. Eggman: Correct.

Tails: But that means the Phantom Ruby no longer has a vulnerable energy supply. It's an invulnerable ruby?

Dr. Eggman: A good deduction, Tails. Omega has surpassed Infinite to become the complete and ultimate form. You will be crushed and in the end everything will still be just as I planned! Phantom Omega, get rid of these pests!

Omega only smiles as he fires a charge shot towards the Death Egg Robot and damages it heavily.

Dr. Eggman: Omega! What are you doing!?

Omega: You said to get rid of the pests, so I’m doing so.

Dr. Eggman (Growls) Why you...

Sonic steps forward but Bass stops him.

Bass: No, you and your younger self go handle Eggman. This is between me and Zero...

Sonic looks at Bass carefully before nodding as he and Classic turn to Eggman in his Death Egg Robot and run towards it.

Bass then turns his attention back to Omega, the latter’s hair flowing in some nonexistent wind as a bright red aura envelops him.

Bass: Zero. I know you can’t hear me, but trust me I promise I will save you from this ruby’s madness.

Omega: (Draws his Z-Saber as he points it towards Bass, the familiar green being replaced by a strange pink glow.) I am Phantom Omega, the strongest robot ever created. I was made with the sole purpose of causing only destruction. With the power of the Phantom Ruby, I'm going to DESTROY THIS DAMN PLANET! THIS IS WHO I AM! I AM THE MESSIAH! (laughing maniacally) HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Bass: Very well. If this is how you want to be... Treble!

Treble jumps towards Bass as he turns into a bright purple light that enters through Bass’s Chest Gem. Upon being absorbed, Bass suddenly feels a great surge of energy within him, one that would be too much for a single android like himself, and his body starts to morph into a new form. Bass’s shining gold on his armor was now a more intimidating dark purple color, he had two large metallic wings on his back, and his helmet fins now changed to be more spikey looking.

Omega only smiled as the two hovered into the air as the battle between robotic brothers began.

Phantom Omega fired a charge shot from each buster as Bass fired at them with his buster, trying to destroy them with his charge shots but couldn’t. He then returned the favor with a barrage of buster shots at machine gun speeds that Omega powered through like they were nothing.

Bass then flew back as the Phantom Ruby powered robot dashed at him while charging up his Z-Buster to fire a barrage of Charge Shots at Bass, who tries his best to avoid them, but is unfortunately unable to come out of it completely unscathed. He had a few close calls with some scratches and scrapes all over his body, but his right fin and left wing were damaged heavily from the shot as Bass hears Treble whine in pain from the damage, angering him greatly as he began to lose altitude.

Omega: What’s wrong Bass? Can’t keep up with my power?

Bass only said nothing as he fell to the ground, Omega barely had to do much at all and he was already down. Once he reached the ground he saw Omega descend from the sky. His anger only gave way as he began to smirk at the corrupted Zero.

Bass: Heh.

Omega: Have you finally come to terms with your defeat brother?

Bass: Defeat? Nah, I just needed time for MY Plan B! Rouge, Knuckles, do it now!

Omega: What!?

Suddenly the bat and echidna flew overhead as the 7 Chaos Emeralds fell down around Bass.

Omega: When did you-

The Emeralds slowly floated into the air as Bass explained.

Bass: We got these as a precautionary measure. They WERE meant for the Sonics to deal with Eggman or Infinite, but I guess this is worth a shot. I’ve never gotten to try using the Chaos Emeralds before, with or without Treble, but if I want to even stand a chance of saving Zero and stopping you, then I have no choice but to try!

Phantom Omega looks angry as he tries to stop him but it’s too late, Bass was enveloped in a white glow from the 7 Emeralds floating around him.

Omega: NO! (He’s then knocked back from an explosion of energy that gets everyone’s attention, replica and resistance members alike as even Eggman and the Sonics stop to see what the heck was going on.)

The glow died down and revealed Bass, instead of turning gold and white, he remained mostly the same but still different. His chest and head gems were now replaced by a rainbow-colored glow with all the 7 colors of the Chaos Emeralds, his eyes went from their normal red to a similar multi-colored glow while his helmet was repaired and returned to a more purple variant of his normal fins. The most notable trait of this form were the two large bat wings on his back as he flew into the air for all to see, looking down at Omega with a toothy grin, who was pissed before his angry scowl turned to a confident grin matching Bass's own.

Omega: So this was your own trump card? (laughing maniacally once more) HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! This might not be boring after all!

Bass then made a bring it gesture as Omega rushed towards him, trying to slash him down with the Z-Saber as Bass avoided it with incredible speed before firing a charge shot from his buster and knocking Omega away. Who wasn’t fazed by it much but did look annoyed.

Deciding to start getting serious he uses the ruby’s power to gain the upper hand, Omega creates multiple copies of himself as they all fly at Bass who smiles as he starts to reveal his full power as well. A familiar green-ish cyan symbol appears on Bass’s white hands as he reels his arms in before a green aura covers his body as he pushes his arms away as he screams the name of his attack.

Bass: Psychic Control!

A dome of psychic energy coats the area as everyone nearby becomes disoriented by Bass using the copied data of Silver. This has the intended effect Bass wanted as the replicas, both in the air and on the ground where the war was taking place, vanished into nothingness due to the now dizzy Omega who was trying to come back to his senses. Using this as an opening he goes for a new attack with Silver’s Psychokinesis.

Closing his eyes to focus he reaches his hand far back as he grabs something far away, just as Omega regains focus he sees Bass’s attack as he throws meteors he grabbed from the far reaches of space right at him.

Bass: Take this! Astro Crush!

Omega: I don’t think so! Shin Chaos Flasher!

The Phantom Ruby powered robot then charges up a pink colored energy sphere in his hands as he rushes right towards the ground to slam it with his fist, causing the ground to shake violently, cracking it as the energy from his hand pours from the ground creating large blasts energy to rocket towards the air, destroying the meteorites as Bass flies around these projectiles before seeing Omega rush towards him surrounded by Shadow replicas who had red glowing fur and bright red eyes as the Chaos Emerald empowered robot realized what was going to happen.

Shadow Replica Army: (In unison) Chaos…. BLAST!

Multiple crimson explosions of Chaos Energy flood the area around Bass.

Omega waits for the blast to die down as he watches to see his enemy’s next move. He suddenly sees a speeding black and purple blur rush from the blast as the Shadow’s rush after him only to vanish as Bass turns around and destroys them with a flurry of charge shot-sized buster shots before the dark armored android turns back to his crimson armored brother as he punches his two fists together.

The latter prepares to draw his saber but is suddenly hit by a mean left hook before followed by a jab to his stomach. He realizes too late that Bass has applied Knuckle’s copied data to utilize his… knuckles. Not one to be deterred however, he decides to play the same game as Bass is and creates brass knuckle like weapons as the two get into a fist fight.

Parrying a Megaton Hook from Bass, Omega uses this opening to go for a few fast but powerful punches and a few kicks as well before nailing Bass with a powerful uppercut as he flies upwards. Sending Bass rocketing towards the heavens.

Omega: SHORYUKEN!

Bass then eventually falls and lands on the ground without much of a scratch as gets back up to rush back in, the two continuing to trade attacks with neither gaining a lead. However Sonic, who has long since destroyed the Death Egg Robot alongside Classic Sonic, notices something odd.

Sonic: Hey wait a minute! How is Bass keeping this Super Form up anyway? It’s been a good few minutes now and he hasn’t needed to grab any rings to help keep the form up. So how’s he doing it? I mean I once managed to keep my Super Form for a few days after fighting Eggman’s mech on the moon, but that was because I constantly collected rings to keep the form long enough.

Tails: That’s a good question actually, in fact he seems to show no signs of running on empty anytime soon.

As the two ponder on this, a voice comes from the wreckage behind Sonic.

Dr. Eggman: Actually, I believe I have a theory that might answer that question.

The two turn to see the doctor, a little bruised and beaten but still in near peak physical form as he continues to watch the fight unfold above. Since there’s no more enemies after Bass’s Psychic Control. Omega has only been using the Replicas for fighting, he’s too busy fighting to bother creating more. All anyone can do at this point is watch.

Dr. Eggman: You see I believe Bass is fueling the form with something else, instead of relying on Ring Energy he’s maintaining his Super transformation with Bassnium.

Tails: Again? So Bass is fighting fire with fire with different powerful gemstones?

Dr. Eggman: Exactly.

Sonic: But wait, shouldn’t the Chaos Emeralds beat the Phantom Ruby, I mean just me and Bass alone beat Infinite?

Dr. Eggman: Well remember that Infinite was still connected to a generator to fuel his ruby, and that source of power had its limits. Bassnium however, as extremely hard to replicate as it is, has no such limits.

You see, when I first was working on the Nuclear Fusion engine for Metal Sonic, I was testing the energy output to make sure it would be manageable. During one such test, I unknowingly accidentally knocked a Chaos Drive prototype I was making myself from before I had access to them, the combined nuclear energy and the Chaos Drive mixed to create a completely unexpected result in the form of Bassnium, an energy source with unlimited energy output even if it pales in comparison to the true Chaos Emeralds.

I was only able to replicate the process successfully once, originally for E-102 Gamma and now Omega, or Zero as he continued to call himself. Though Bass is technically the older and weaker of the two androids, even with Treble Boost closing the gap Omega is still superior power wise. However, with Bassnium’s ties to the Chaos Drives, and therefore, it’s ties to the Chaos Emeralds could mean he might be gaining an even greater boost of power than Super Sonic was, closing that gap and matching Phantom Omega in power.

Sonic: Woah, I’m almost scared to imagine the power he’d have with the Super Emeralds for a theoretical Hyper Form. But basically, Bass is stuck in an eternal stalemate against Phantom Omega, both matching each other in power because of their shared power source? So how’s either going to win?

Tails: I guess it comes down to the differences then, something Bass is aware of and using to his advantage.

Sonic: The differences? You mean the difference between the Emeralds and Ruby?

Tails: No, the differences between Bass and Zero themselves. Just keep watching and you’ll see what I mean.

Back to the fight, Bass and Omega had changed up strategies as he held Amy’s Piko Piko Hammer as it clashed against Omega’s own large hammer.

Bass: Rose Hammer! / Omega: Titan Breaker!

The two heads of the hammers smashed and created shockwaves across the air as they flew back a large distance

Both their hammers vanished as Bass then aimed his buster at Omega and fired a golden bolt of Chaos Energy at Omega.

Bass: Chaos Spear!

The bolt paralyzed Omega as Bass uses this opening to roundhouse kick him into some rubble.

Bass then landed and waited for Omega to get back up, certain he wouldn’t stay down for long as he tried to think of a plan to end this back and forth once and for all. But his thoughts were cut off as he wasn’t the only one who was growing bored with the fight.

Omega: ENOUGH!

A large pillar of energy rocket upwards into the sky from the rubble as Phantom Omega flew upwards and looked pissed.

Omega: I have to give you some credit, you’re certainly a persistent one. But this fight has gone on long enough. I will destroy you once and for all.

The sounds of the Phantom Ruby ring out and with a wave of his hand, Bass looks up and his eyes widen. The sun was behind Omega as he had a buster aimed towards it.

Bass: What is this?

Omega: This is the true power of the Phantom Ruby, where my fantasy is your reality. Now witness my power, PARADISE LOST!

A powerful fully charged shot the size of a small moon erupted from his buster without breaking eye contact with Bass. Bass could only look on in horror as the sun itself was destroyed by his shot. Without the sun, the area grew darker and colder.

Bass looked around and saw that he was alone in this area. No signs of life from moments ago, no signs of any other robots besides them. This seemed to be a large pocket dimension recreation of the world, down to the smallest detail. Only proving that Phantom Ruby and Phantom Omega were truly a force to be reckoned with.

The robot sat on his knees and pounded the ground in angrish, believing he had failed to save Sonic’s world and Zero, and now everything was going to die because of him.

Bass: Damn it! It’s all my fault!

However, his anger faded soon enough as Bass realized he still had time, from his best estimates he gathered he had at least 30 seconds to get out of this. It was do or die time now. But how could he do it?

He thought hard about the battle so far, and tried to remember what he could remember with his encounters with Infinite and the Phantom Ruby. Trying to think of some way he could win. After some consideration, it was a long shot, but it was his only shot. The only solution was to break this illusion.

With a battle cry and a little less than 30 seconds to wrap it up, the robot flew at Omega at blinding speeds as the android dodged Bass with a simple teleport. He was playing with the robot as Bass and Omega traded more blows until the darkness was only seconds away from them.

Bass, now crunched on time, glowed with a bright dark blue energy, his rainbow eyes had a filter of blue over them as well. Omega realized what he was doing and started radiating with a negative colored energy around his body. Despite the different methods they were using, both were using the same technique at the same time.

Bass & Omega: (Simultaneously) Chaos… Control!

The very flow of time itself came to a crawl as everything around them became this negative colored energy as they then charged up their strongest physical attacks.

Omega held his saber up high as energy began to build up in it as the energy blade slowly grew in size.

Bass meanwhile was gathering a large amount of chaos energy around him as he began to form an aura of golden energy around his body.

Bass: Alright, let’s do this! Super Sonic….

Omega: I won’t lose! Genmu….

Bass: -BOOST! / Omega: -ZERO!

Omega slashes down creating 6 large pink crescent waves, they each cut through the air like butter while Bass rushed at him in a boost with the power of Super Sonic’s data. He clashed against the waves of energy as needed to push beyond as he refused to slow down.

Soon, he put everything he could into the technique and broke right through the waves, even as Zero continued to throw more and more Genmu Zeros at Bass, he never slowed down for long and kept pushing through. Until he saw Bass reel back his buster as he charged up a full powered shot with it before slamming the barrel against the Phantom Ruby, cracking it a bit.

Omega: NO!

Omega screamed out in pain before gritting his teeth and smashed the buster away before it fired and then slashed it clean off before impaling Bass with his Saber, being his first attacks to cause Bass actual pain. Before Bass punched Omega back.

Their Chaos Control wouldn't last much longer as Bass pulled the Z-Saber from his chest with his one good hand, closing his eyes as the thin pink blade returned to it's familiar green hue. In response, Omega created two new Sabers in its place.

Omega: I will not let some obsolete robot outclass me!

Bass: I won't give up here, not while I still can save Zero!

Bass then used his Copied Data of the Android to match Omega in combat, despite having two blades and the power edge Bass was barely holding back Omega’s attacks.

Time was almost up. A few more seconds were left as Bass used the only escape method he could think of. As he put the Z-Saber in his mouth, he held his only Bass Buster towards the sky with golden energy charging up in it, Omega meanwhile smirked as he vanished away, just as the Chaos Control ended. Leaving Bass to his fate.

The incoming darkness continued as Bass was about to be engulfed in it, he then upwards and prays to Chaos this works.

Omega merely laughs in victory as he returns to the battlefield. Everyone looks up in horror as Omega plans to destroy the entire planet in grandiose fashion as he covers the entire area in his illusion as he prepares to destroy the sun, taking aim with his buster as he charges up a shot.

After a few moments, it's ready as nobody can stop him, shots from any Wispon wielding resistance member or energy bolts from Eggman robot still in functioning order do nothing to even faze Phantom Omega.

Omega: Let the world be coated in darkness, so you all can see the blinding light that is your end.

He fires his Charge Shot, as the bright red blast flies through the air at incredible speeds, but mid-flight Omega sees in the path of his shot, a large golden ring materializes in the air from nothingness. And a bright green and purple colored shot neutralizes the shot as both cancelled each other out.

After that, out of the ring flies one very pissed off looking Bass who dropped the Z-Saber into his one good hand. Omega was caught completely off guard by this turn of events.

Omega: Impossible! How did you escape my pocket dimension!?

Bass: It's quite easy, I merely used the same power of the Chaos Emeralds that allows them to create the Warp Rings used to access pocket dimension in the form of Special Zones where they normally hide, I merely had to jump into a Special Zone and then use the same method to get back to reality. I had plenty of time to analyze their data during a few of the doctor's plans.

Omega looks of fury and confusion then turns to a look filled with nothing but madness, with an unsettling smile as well.

Omega: Hehehehe… HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! (His laugh now echoes across the former battlefield as everyone hears him until it dies down, but his smile persists as he says) You just never know when to give up don't you?

Bass: (A cocky smirk finds its way onto his face, barely fazed by Omega's laugh) Heh. Guess I don't. But no matter what you throw at me I'm going to be the one to end this, once and for all.

Omega: Oh really? And what stolen power will you use next I wonder?

Bass laughs as he activates the saber, holding it up towards the sky in a familiar way to how Omega did so earlier as the robot's eyes widened.

Omega: No…. You didn't….

Bass: Thanks for showing me your strongest move little brother!

Bass then starts pouring energy from both his Bassnium core and the positive energy of the Emeralds to create a large multi-colored saber, though a little shaky with the fact he can only hold it up with one functional arm. He only wished Zero could help him support this...

However it suddenly straightened more and some of the weight was taken off him as Bass felt a figure holding up the saber next to him, it was… Zero?

Omega then saw the other Zero and was also confused clearly showing it wasn't a hallucination created in his mind, he was almost like a phanto-

...A phantom… The Phantom Ruby. Bass must have copied some of its data unknowingly during the past few encounters with Infinite and from the Prototype he used earlier to destroy the false sun. Enough data to somewhat replicate his brother in order to help him in his time of need.

The energy blade grew to a greater size than the attack used by Phantom Omega before and though the weight of all the chaos energy and Bassnium was a lot on his arm, Bass powered through it all and prepared the attack.

Bass and Replica Zero: Genmu…

Phantom Omega meanwhile has already prepared to use the same technique. Summoning multiple Replica Omega copies to do the same.

Omega: Genmu….

Both parties then brought down their sabers as crescent waves rushed at each other.

All 3 of them: ….ZERO!

The rainbow colored saber wave and pink colored waves clashed against each other. However Chaos Genmu Zero held a lot more energy than the many Genmu Zeroes used by Omega and thus it was able to push against it until breaking through and destroying the waves as Omega desperately tried to avoid it only to suddenly be grabbed by Bass who had Chaos Controlled behind him to kick him into the wave, hitting it dead on.

The wave poured positive energy into his body as Omega shouted towards the heavens, the Phantom Ruby started to crack as the robot screamed defiantly at his end until the ruby finally shattered into pieces. Destroying it once and for all.

The robot then fell to the ground as his eyes shut, looking unconscious as he laid motionless on the ground.

Bass then lands next to his brother to see if he is finally back to normal.

He was greeted to two tired blue eyes full of confusion as he rubs his head.

Zero: Ugh… What happened? Bass? Why do you look like that?

Bass: Zero! You're ok!

Zero: Yeah… I am? Wait where's Infinite!? I have a score to settle with that bast-

Bass: He's gone Zero, him and the Phantom Ruby are now gone. They can't hurt anyone any longer.

Zero then looks a bit disappointed as he gets up.

Zero: So what the heck did I miss?

Bass: You missed quite a lot, Phantom Omega.

Zero: (Confused) Phantom…. Omega? Why do I have a feeling I'm not gonna like where this is going?

As the two brothers walk off and return to their friends, Sonic and friends are relieved both Bass and Zero are alright.

By this point, Bass no longer needed the Chaos Emeralds power and deactivated the form, sending the Emeralds flying all over the world… again.

Things then end on a happy note as Bass tells Zero all about the events of Sonic Forces. With the world finally returning to the peace it once knew before the war.

Basically all you need to know that isn't on there is that after Bass and his robotic wolf companion Treble took the place of Gamma in SA1 where he got Froggy and witnessed Tikal's vision to rebel against Eggman with inspiration from Amy, after destroying all the E-100 robots including an upgraded Gamma who had a buster like Bass and a sword arm alongside other things, he became his own robot and rebelled against Eggman. This then inspired Eggman to, instead of creating E-123 Omega as a successor to the E-100 line, he created a successor to Bass who exceeded Bass like Metal Sonic was to Sonic. This robot was Zero but Eggman still named him Omega since ZERO was the name of E-100 Alpha, however this Omega decided to give himself the name of Zero anyway to signify this was a new beginning for him with Team Dark.

Up until Sonic Forces, things went relatively similar to canon only with slight differences here and there due to Bass, Treble, and Zero. Up until Infinite creates his massive sun. Due note however that the Rookie is replaced by Bass who was recently reactivated after him and Treble were defeated by Infinite around the same time as Sonic. Also note that Zero was taken by Eggman alongside Sonic but not Bass who he saw as worthless compared to his true masterpiece.

Infinite is in a glitch-like state on the ground before Sonic and Bass after having been dealt a powerful blow from the two working together.

Infinite: Impossible. I cannot be defeated.

Sonic: Wrong, loser! The things that can't be defeated are heart, soul, and the bonds of friendship. Three things you and your counterfeit cronies lack!

Bass: You also threw aside everything in pursuit of power. Believe me, I know what that's like, if you truly think you are the strongest, someone stronger will always come along and prove you wrong. And even if you were the strongest, then what? Being the top dog in the world, being the absolute pinnacle of power, being the most powerful Eggman creation ever? That sounds like it would get boring quickly and it will only leave you empty and hollow in the end. In fact... (He looks down to the ground) If it wasn’t for Sonic and his friends, I might have ended up just like you, delusional and alone.

Infinite pounds his fist on the ground in frustration at Sonic and Bass's truth, before finding himself being lifted into the air against his will.

Infinite: (Struggles to stand up) No, wait! I can still fight!

After a couple more strained gasps as he continues to struggle against the force working against him, Infinite fades away and his Phantom Ruby prototype is dragged off to an unknown location. Sonic and Bass look at each other, puzzled. Bass merely then stares in the direction of where Infinite was moments ago before he and Sonic turn their attention forward as Dr. Eggman approaches the duo in his Egg Mobile.

Dr. Eggman: You two never fail to surprise me. I didn't believe Infinite could lose. But victory will be so much sweeter when I defeat you. Don't think this is over yet, you blue nuisance. My plan just went into overtime!

Sonic, Bass, and Treble land on the ground after leaping out of the Central Tower followed by destroying the Phantom Ruby reactor. They wave to the incoming Tails and Classic Sonic.

Sonic: We did it! Eggman's army is officially butt-kicked! We won!

Sonic attempts to fist bump Tails, but they are interrupted by a small earthquake. Bass grits his teeth and scowls as they look around for the source of the interruption as Sonic begins to groan.

Sonic: Oh, come on! Now what? Can't we ever just win and have that be the end of it?

Bass: Does Eggman ever just accept defeat gracefully?

Tails: Look!

Dr. Eggman emerges from a cloud of smoke with the Death Egg Robot with a mysterious figure floating beside the head.

Dr. Eggman: Gotcha! The fortress reactor was just a decoy. A true winner always keeps his trump card hidden until the end.

Vector: (Over radio) Sonic, what's going on? There aren't less enemies! There's MORE!

Tails: What?

Bass: (Stares into the smoke as his eyes widen) Impossible. It’s...

Amy: (Over radio) How could there be so many?

Rouge: (Over radio) Confirmed sightings indicate Shadow, Metal Sonic, Zavok, Chaos, Infinite... Thousands of them!

Sonic: What have you done!? (Classic Sonic grits his teeth in anger.)

Dr. Eggman: Mwa-hahaha! I merely added the Phantom Ruby into my Plan B should Infinite fail. Or should I call it Plan Omega?

Sonic: Plan Omega? Wait, does that mean!?

From the smoke emerges a familiar figure, it was Zero. Fully repaired and functional, only the Phantom Ruby now replaced the once familiar blue gem on the front of his helmet.

Dr. Eggman: You may have taken out most of my energy sources for the Phantom Ruby. But what if I connected it to a power source that had an unlimited supply of energy? Then the Phantom Ruby’s power would be limitless!

Bass: (Bass’s face turns to a scowl) Bassnium…

Dr. Eggman: Correct.

Tails: But that means the Phantom Ruby no longer has a vulnerable energy supply. It's an invulnerable ruby?

Dr. Eggman: A good deduction, Tails. Omega has surpassed Infinite to become the complete and ultimate form. You will be crushed and in the end everything will still be just as I planned! Phantom Omega, get rid of these pests!

Omega only smiles as he fires a charge shot towards the Death Egg Robot and damages it heavily.

Dr. Eggman: Omega! What are you doing!?

Omega: You said to get rid of the pests, so I’m doing so.

Dr. Eggman (Growls) Why you...

Sonic steps forward but Bass stops him.

Bass: No, you and your younger self go handle Eggman. This is between me and Zero...

Sonic looks at Bass carefully before nodding as he and Classic turn to Eggman in his Death Egg Robot and run towards it.

Bass then turns his attention back to Omega, the latter’s hair flowing in some nonexistent wind as a bright red aura envelops him.

Bass: Zero. I know you can’t hear me, but trust me I promise I will save you from this ruby’s madness.

Omega: (Draws his Z-Saber as he points it towards Bass, the familiar green being replaced by a strange pink glow.) I am Phantom Omega, the strongest robot ever created. I was made with the sole purpose of causing only destruction. With the power of the Phantom Ruby, I'm going to DESTROY THIS DAMN PLANET! THIS IS WHO I AM! I AM THE MESSIAH! (laughing maniacally) HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Bass: Very well. If this is how you want to be... Treble!

Treble jumps towards Bass as he turns into a bright purple light that enters through Bass’s Chest Gem. Upon being absorbed, Bass suddenly feels a great surge of energy within him, one that would be too much for a single android like himself, and his body starts to morph into a new form. Bass’s shining gold on his armor was now a more intimidating dark purple color, he had two large metallic wings on his back, and his helmet fins now changed to be more spikey looking.

Omega only smiled as the two hovered into the air as the battle between robotic brothers began.

Phantom Omega fired a charge shot from each buster as Bass fired at them with his buster, trying to destroy them with his charge shots but couldn’t. He then returned the favor with a barrage of buster shots at machine gun speeds that Omega powered through like they were nothing.

Bass then flew back as the Phantom Ruby powered robot dashed at him while charging up his Z-Buster to fire a barrage of Charge Shots at Bass, who tries his best to avoid them, but is unfortunately unable to come out of it completely unscathed. He had a few close calls with some scratches and scrapes all over his body, but his right fin and left wing were damaged heavily from the shot as Bass hears Treble whine in pain from the damage, angering him greatly as he began to lose altitude.

Omega: What’s wrong Bass? Can’t keep up with my power?

Bass only said nothing as he fell to the ground, Omega barely had to do much at all and he was already down. Once he reached the ground he saw Omega descend from the sky. His anger only gave way as he began to smirk at the corrupted Zero.

Bass: Heh.

Omega: Have you finally come to terms with your defeat brother?

Bass: Defeat? Nah, I just needed time for MY Plan B! Rouge, Knuckles, do it now!

Omega: What!?

Suddenly the bat and echidna flew overhead as the 7 Chaos Emeralds fell down around Bass.

Omega: When did you-

The Emeralds slowly floated into the air as Bass explained.

Bass: We got these as a precautionary measure. They WERE meant for the Sonics to deal with Eggman or Infinite, but I guess this is worth a shot. I’ve never gotten to try using the Chaos Emeralds before, with or without Treble, but if I want to even stand a chance of saving Zero and stopping you, then I have no choice but to try!

Phantom Omega looks angry as he tries to stop him but it’s too late, Bass was enveloped in a white glow from the 7 Emeralds floating around him.

Omega: NO! (He’s then knocked back from an explosion of energy that gets everyone’s attention, replica and resistance members alike as even Eggman and the Sonics stop to see what the heck was going on.)

The glow died down and revealed Bass, instead of turning gold and white, he remained mostly the same but still different. His chest and head gems were now replaced by a rainbow-colored glow with all the 7 colors of the Chaos Emeralds, his eyes went from their normal red to a similar multi-colored glow while his helmet was repaired and returned to a more purple variant of his normal fins. The most notable trait of this form were the two large bat wings on his back as he flew into the air for all to see, looking down at Omega with a toothy grin, who was pissed before his angry scowl turned to a confident grin matching Bass's own.

Omega: So this was your own trump card? (laughing maniacally once more) HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! This might not be boring after all!

Bass then made a bring it gesture as Omega rushed towards him, trying to slash him down with the Z-Saber as Bass avoided it with incredible speed before firing a charge shot from his buster and knocking Omega away. Who wasn’t fazed by it much but did look annoyed.

Deciding to start getting serious he uses the ruby’s power to gain the upper hand, Omega creates multiple copies of himself as they all fly at Bass who smiles as he starts to reveal his full power as well. A familiar green-ish cyan symbol appears on Bass’s white hands as he reels his arms in before a green aura covers his body as he pushes his arms away as he screams the name of his attack.

Bass: Psychic Control!

A dome of psychic energy coats the area as everyone nearby becomes disoriented by Bass using the copied data of Silver. This has the intended effect Bass wanted as the replicas, both in the air and on the ground where the war was taking place, vanished into nothingness due to the now dizzy Omega who was trying to come back to his senses. Using this as an opening he goes for a new attack with Silver’s Psychokinesis.

Closing his eyes to focus he reaches his hand far back as he grabs something far away, just as Omega regains focus he sees Bass’s attack as he throws meteors he grabbed from the far reaches of space right at him.

Bass: Take this! Astro Crush!

Omega: I don’t think so! Shin Chaos Flasher!

The Phantom Ruby powered robot then charges up a pink colored energy sphere in his hands as he rushes right towards the ground to slam it with his fist, causing the ground to shake violently, cracking it as the energy from his hand pours from the ground creating large blasts energy to rocket towards the air, destroying the meteorites as Bass flies around these projectiles before seeing Omega rush towards him surrounded by Shadow replicas who had red glowing fur and bright red eyes as the Chaos Emerald empowered robot realized what was going to happen.

Shadow Replica Army: (In unison) Chaos…. BLAST!

Multiple crimson explosions of Chaos Energy flood the area around Bass.

Omega waits for the blast to die down as he watches to see his enemy’s next move. He suddenly sees a speeding black and purple blur rush from the blast as the Shadow’s rush after him only to vanish as Bass turns around and destroys them with a flurry of charge shot-sized buster shots before the dark armored android turns back to his crimson armored brother as he punches his two fists together.

The latter prepares to draw his saber but is suddenly hit by a mean left hook before followed by a jab to his stomach. He realizes too late that Bass has applied Knuckle’s copied data to utilize his… knuckles. Not one to be deterred however, he decides to play the same game as Bass is and creates brass knuckle like weapons as the two get into a fist fight.

Parrying a Megaton Hook from Bass, Omega uses this opening to go for a few fast but powerful punches and a few kicks as well before nailing Bass with a powerful uppercut as he flies upwards. Sending Bass rocketing towards the heavens.

Omega: SHORYUKEN!

Bass then eventually falls and lands on the ground without much of a scratch as gets back up to rush back in, the two continuing to trade attacks with neither gaining a lead. However Sonic, who has long since destroyed the Death Egg Robot alongside Classic Sonic, notices something odd.

Sonic: Hey wait a minute! How is Bass keeping this Super Form up anyway? It’s been a good few minutes now and he hasn’t needed to grab any rings to help keep the form up. So how’s he doing it? I mean I once managed to keep my Super Form for a few days after fighting Eggman’s mech on the moon, but that was because I constantly collected rings to keep the form long enough.

Tails: That’s a good question actually, in fact he seems to show no signs of running on empty anytime soon.

As the two ponder on this, a voice comes from the wreckage behind Sonic.

Dr. Eggman: Actually, I believe I have a theory that might answer that question.

The two turn to see the doctor, a little bruised and beaten but still in near peak physical form as he continues to watch the fight unfold above. Since there’s no more enemies after Bass’s Psychic Control. Omega has only been using the Replicas for fighting, he’s too busy fighting to bother creating more. All anyone can do at this point is watch.

Dr. Eggman: You see I believe Bass is fueling the form with something else, instead of relying on Ring Energy he’s maintaining his Super transformation with Bassnium.

Tails: Again? So Bass is fighting fire with fire with different powerful gemstones?

Dr. Eggman: Exactly.

Sonic: But wait, shouldn’t the Chaos Emeralds beat the Phantom Ruby, I mean just me and Bass alone beat Infinite?

Dr. Eggman: Well remember that Infinite was still connected to a generator to fuel his ruby, and that source of power had its limits. Bassnium however, as extremely hard to replicate as it is, has no such limits.

You see, when I first was working on the Nuclear Fusion engine for Metal Sonic, I was testing the energy output to make sure it would be manageable. During one such test, I unknowingly accidentally knocked a Chaos Drive prototype I was making myself from before I had access to them, the combined nuclear energy and the Chaos Drive mixed to create a completely unexpected result in the form of Bassnium, an energy source with unlimited energy output even if it pales in comparison to the true Chaos Emeralds.

I was only able to replicate the process successfully once, originally for E-102 Gamma and now Omega, or Zero as he continued to call himself. Though Bass is technically the older and weaker of the two androids, even with Treble Boost closing the gap Omega is still superior power wise. However, with Bassnium’s ties to the Chaos Drives, and therefore, it’s ties to the Chaos Emeralds could mean he might be gaining an even greater boost of power than Super Sonic was, closing that gap and matching Phantom Omega in power.

Sonic: Woah, I’m almost scared to imagine the power he’d have with the Super Emeralds for a theoretical Hyper Form. But basically, Bass is stuck in an eternal stalemate against Phantom Omega, both matching each other in power because of their shared power source? So how’s either going to win?

Tails: I guess it comes down to the differences then, something Bass is aware of and using to his advantage.

Sonic: The differences? You mean the difference between the Emeralds and Ruby?

Tails: No, the differences between Bass and Zero themselves. Just keep watching and you’ll see what I mean.

Back to the fight, Bass and Omega had changed up strategies as he held Amy’s Piko Piko Hammer as it clashed against Omega’s own large hammer.

Bass: Rose Hammer! / Omega: Titan Breaker!

The two heads of the hammers smashed and created shockwaves across the air as they flew back a large distance

Both their hammers vanished as Bass then aimed his buster at Omega and fired a golden bolt of Chaos Energy at Omega.

Bass: Chaos Spear!

The bolt paralyzed Omega as Bass uses this opening to roundhouse kick him into some rubble.

Bass then landed and waited for Omega to get back up, certain he wouldn’t stay down for long as he tried to think of a plan to end this back and forth once and for all. But his thoughts were cut off as he wasn’t the only one who was growing bored with the fight.

Omega: ENOUGH!

A large pillar of energy rocket upwards into the sky from the rubble as Phantom Omega flew upwards and looked pissed.

Omega: I have to give you some credit, you’re certainly a persistent one. But this fight has gone on long enough. I will destroy you once and for all.

The sounds of the Phantom Ruby ring out and with a wave of his hand, Bass looks up and his eyes widen. The sun was behind Omega as he had a buster aimed towards it.

Bass: What is this?

Omega: This is the true power of the Phantom Ruby, where my fantasy is your reality. Now witness my power, PARADISE LOST!

A powerful fully charged shot the size of a small moon erupted from his buster without breaking eye contact with Bass. Bass could only look on in horror as the sun itself was destroyed by his shot. Without the sun, the area grew darker and colder.

Bass looked around and saw that he was alone in this area. No signs of life from moments ago, no signs of any other robots besides them. This seemed to be a large pocket dimension recreation of the world, down to the smallest detail. Only proving that Phantom Ruby and Phantom Omega were truly a force to be reckoned with.

The robot sat on his knees and pounded the ground in angrish, believing he had failed to save Sonic’s world and Zero, and now everything was going to die because of him.

Bass: Damn it! It’s all my fault!

However, his anger faded soon enough as Bass realized he still had time, from his best estimates he gathered he had at least 30 seconds to get out of this. It was do or die time now. But how could he do it?

He thought hard about the battle so far, and tried to remember what he could remember with his encounters with Infinite and the Phantom Ruby. Trying to think of some way he could win. After some consideration, it was a long shot, but it was his only shot. The only solution was to break this illusion.

With a battle cry and a little less than 30 seconds to wrap it up, the robot flew at Omega at blinding speeds as the android dodged Bass with a simple teleport. He was playing with the robot as Bass and Omega traded more blows until the darkness was only seconds away from them.

Bass, now crunched on time, glowed with a bright dark blue energy, his rainbow eyes had a filter of blue over them as well. Omega realized what he was doing and started radiating with a negative colored energy around his body. Despite the different methods they were using, both were using the same technique at the same time.

Bass & Omega: (Simultaneously) Chaos… Control!

The very flow of time itself came to a crawl as everything around them became this negative colored energy as they then charged up their strongest physical attacks.

Omega held his saber up high as energy began to build up in it as the energy blade slowly grew in size.

Bass meanwhile was gathering a large amount of chaos energy around him as he began to form an aura of golden energy around his body.

Bass: Alright, let’s do this! Super Sonic….

Omega: I won’t lose! Genmu….

Bass: -BOOST! / Omega: -ZERO!

Omega slashes down creating 6 large pink crescent waves, they each cut through the air like butter while Bass rushed at him in a boost with the power of Super Sonic’s data. He clashed against the waves of energy as needed to push beyond as he refused to slow down.

Soon, he put everything he could into the technique and broke right through the waves, even as Zero continued to throw more and more Genmu Zeros at Bass, he never slowed down for long and kept pushing through. Until he saw Bass reel back his buster as he charged up a full powered shot with it before slamming the barrel against the Phantom Ruby, cracking it a bit.

Omega: NO!

Omega screamed out in pain before gritting his teeth and smashed the buster away before it fired and then slashed it clean off before impaling Bass with his Saber, being his first attacks to cause Bass actual pain. Before Bass punched Omega back.

Their Chaos Control wouldn't last much longer as Bass pulled the Z-Saber from his chest with his one good hand, closing his eyes as the thin pink blade returned to it's familiar green hue. In response, Omega created two new Sabers in its place.

Omega: I will not let some obsolete robot outclass me!

Bass: I won't give up here, not while I still can save Zero!

Bass then used his Copied Data of the Android to match Omega in combat, despite having two blades and the power edge Bass was barely holding back Omega’s attacks.

Time was almost up. A few more seconds were left as Bass used the only escape method he could think of. As he put the Z-Saber in his mouth, he held his only Bass Buster towards the sky with golden energy charging up in it, Omega meanwhile smirked as he vanished away, just as the Chaos Control ended. Leaving Bass to his fate.

The incoming darkness continued as Bass was about to be engulfed in it, he then upwards and prays to Chaos this works.

Omega merely laughs in victory as he returns to the battlefield. Everyone looks up in horror as Omega plans to destroy the entire planet in grandiose fashion as he covers the entire area in his illusion as he prepares to destroy the sun, taking aim with his buster as he charges up a shot.

After a few moments, it's ready as nobody can stop him, shots from any Wispon wielding resistance member or energy bolts from Eggman robot still in functioning order do nothing to even faze Phantom Omega.

Omega: Let the world be coated in darkness, so you all can see the blinding light that is your end.

He fires his Charge Shot, as the bright red blast flies through the air at incredible speeds, but mid-flight Omega sees in the path of his shot, a large golden ring materializes in the air from nothingness. And a bright green and purple colored shot neutralizes the shot as both cancelled each other out.

After that, out of the ring flies one very pissed off looking Bass who dropped the Z-Saber into his one good hand. Omega was caught completely off guard by this turn of events.

Omega: Impossible! How did you escape my pocket dimension!?

Bass: It's quite easy, I merely used the same power of the Chaos Emeralds that allows them to create the Warp Rings used to access pocket dimension in the form of Special Zones where they normally hide, I merely had to jump into a Special Zone and then use the same method to get back to reality. I had plenty of time to analyze their data during a few of the doctor's plans.

Omega looks of fury and confusion then turns to a look filled with nothing but madness, with an unsettling smile as well.

Omega: Hehehehe… HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! (His laugh now echoes across the former battlefield as everyone hears him until it dies down, but his smile persists as he says) You just never know when to give up don't you?

Bass: (A cocky smirk finds its way onto his face, barely fazed by Omega's laugh) Heh. Guess I don't. But no matter what you throw at me I'm going to be the one to end this, once and for all.

Omega: Oh really? And what stolen power will you use next I wonder?

Bass laughs as he activates the saber, holding it up towards the sky in a familiar way to how Omega did so earlier as the robot's eyes widened.

Omega: No…. You didn't….

Bass: Thanks for showing me your strongest move little brother!

Bass then starts pouring energy from both his Bassnium core and the positive energy of the Emeralds to create a large multi-colored saber, though a little shaky with the fact he can only hold it up with one functional arm. He only wished Zero could help him support this...

However it suddenly straightened more and some of the weight was taken off him as Bass felt a figure holding up the saber next to him, it was… Zero?

Omega then saw the other Zero and was also confused clearly showing it wasn't a hallucination created in his mind, he was almost like a phanto-

...A phantom… The Phantom Ruby. Bass must have copied some of its data unknowingly during the past few encounters with Infinite and from the Prototype he used earlier to destroy the false sun. Enough data to somewhat replicate his brother in order to help him in his time of need.

The energy blade grew to a greater size than the attack used by Phantom Omega before and though the weight of all the chaos energy and Bassnium was a lot on his arm, Bass powered through it all and prepared the attack.

Bass and Replica Zero: Genmu…

Phantom Omega meanwhile has already prepared to use the same technique. Summoning multiple Replica Omega copies to do the same.

Omega: Genmu….

Both parties then brought down their sabers as crescent waves rushed at each other.

All 3 of them: ….ZERO!

The rainbow colored saber wave and pink colored waves clashed against each other. However Chaos Genmu Zero held a lot more energy than the many Genmu Zeroes used by Omega and thus it was able to push against it until breaking through and destroying the waves as Omega desperately tried to avoid it only to suddenly be grabbed by Bass who had Chaos Controlled behind him to kick him into the wave, hitting it dead on.

The wave poured positive energy into his body as Omega shouted towards the heavens, the Phantom Ruby started to crack as the robot screamed defiantly at his end until the ruby finally shattered into pieces. Destroying it once and for all.

The robot then fell to the ground as his eyes shut, looking unconscious as he laid motionless on the ground.

Bass then lands next to his brother to see if he is finally back to normal.

He was greeted to two tired blue eyes full of confusion as he rubs his head.

Zero: Ugh… What happened? Bass? Why do you look like that?

Bass: Zero! You're ok!

Zero: Yeah… I am? Wait where's Infinite!? I have a score to settle with that bast-

Bass: He's gone Zero, him and the Phantom Ruby are now gone. They can't hurt anyone any longer.

Zero then looks a bit disappointed as he gets up.

Zero: So what the heck did I miss?

Bass: You missed quite a lot, Phantom Omega.

Zero: (Confused) Phantom…. Omega? Why do I have a feeling I'm not gonna like where this is going?

As the two brothers walk off and return to their friends, Sonic and friends are relieved both Bass and Zero are alright.

By this point, Bass no longer needed the Chaos Emeralds power and deactivated the form, sending the Emeralds flying all over the world… again.

Things then end on a happy note as Bass tells Zero all about the events of Sonic Forces. With the world finally returning to the peace it once knew before the war.
