Description
Because the only way to calm myself down after feeling like a useless failure for the past few weeks on account of school was to actually feel like I was doing something to help people. So here's the start of a probably 3 or 4 part tutorial on my process. Which isn't necessarily a great or magnificent process, but like I said, if someone wants a place to jump off of, then I guess I can give them some help.
I don't think a lot of people like hearing about the preparation phase, because a lot of people don't like the thought of having to prepare for an art piece, they just want to go at it, and I'd be lying if I didn't say I do just jump at things sometimes, but if I'm doing an actual illustration, I plan. If you don't like the planning process, that's fine.
The Next Part will be Lineart. Maybe you'll like that a bit more, though admittedly, how I do lineart is a bit different... I don't know how many people would actually do it the way I do it, but hey, maybe you'll learn something.
PART 2 COMING SOON

I really like to see the preperation phase. This is great. I never use grid lines but the way you used them, it just looks really helpful. composition is so hard.

Ooh, another Crispy tutorial! I do appreciate you posting these when you do. Especially the bit about the thirds in this one-- I always forget to use them but it does direct the flow of the eye better... True Grit was a nice subject choice for the tutorial piece too.
