Description How I prepare my lines and how I flat. BIG BUTT FILE. AUGH.

Also I've been chipping away at this for a few days, so forgive me. I didn't do a complete step by step on the flats because I didn't think there was much to say. But I might've skipped over something you guys might need.

So if there are any questions about flatting or anything else in this tut, feel free to ask! I just hope it's being at least a little helpful.

Since no one else has asked it...
Is this just for photoshop?
Because I use SAI for my mac.

Well, I only know how to use photoshop ;o; sorry! I don't use sai very often, so I wouldn't know if they have similar tools for this.

Ok, thanks!
I tried downloading Photoshop (ARRRG! Me pirate!) but all I could find was the trial....

you can download photoshop and then do some piraty stuff to the trial period, making it forget that it's a trial version. Since the photoshop trial you get from Adobe is already the full program, all you need to do is make sure it doesn't "call" Adobe and let them know that it's a trial. It's the only way I know how to explain it... Anyways. If you search for it online you'll find plenty of tutorials on how to get the photoshop sans trial period. But nobody does that ofc. ^-^ *winkwink*

Haha, will do! I got the photoshop illustrator trial, but I own the photoshop elements, which SUCKS for drawing -_-
Oh god, It calls them? I'm so scared!

I'm not going to tell you how exactly to crack it, since I don't remember (and have never done it myself.... u know...) but if you have elements it really shouldn't be a problem. Photoshop elements is pretty much the same as the big brother, only with less sliders and options for all kinds of stuff. At least that's what I'm told. It's not like having photoshop is going to make your lines straighter or anything like that. Just letting you know so you don't get your hopes up. I'm sure elements can do as much for you if you look for it long enough

Oh, I know it would make lines smoother, it just doesn't have the same features as illustrator, and it's kinda centered around pictures, or so I am told.
Also, I'm kind of a simple chick, I don't understand most of the trouble people go through, I'm just like
"LOL, DRAWING FOR FUN IS KEWL!"

Very nice tutorial!

But I have to say on the lineart section: YIKES! Normally, I'd just place my scan on one layer, draw over it neatly on a new, transparent layer, and do the colors underneath. I dunno, I find that particular method much easier than trying to turn a flat image into layered.

I dunno. If it was me, I would've been highly discouraged from drawing if I had to deal with the devil portals and the masks. Just my opinion.

Well, the masking section takes like.. 1 minute, honestly. For me, I'm so used to doing it, it takes less than 20 seconds to get it onto another layer. You just have to know how to use the tools.

And I just like how pencil lines look, and inking over it digitally always took SOOOOOOO much longer for me and never looked as good as my pencil lines. But there's nothing bad with digital inking! I just definitely wouldn't say it was easier.

This is really amazing! I didn't know you could move scanned linear onto its own layer- the method I was using before was essentially a wild flip-flop between 'overlay' and 'multiply' for everything and it took forever.

Thank you so much for making these.

land of light and shadow; LOLAS?

anyway this was helpfulβ€”I would not have thought of doing the flats by outlining them and then filling, tbhβ€”but I will be super-fascinated to find out how you do shading because I've figured out an admittedly kludgy routine for flatting my lineart but I have NOT figured out a useful way to quickly shade 4 comix yet.

XDD I was honestly tempted to put "LOLAS" at the end, but I didn't know how crazy I'd look.

And man, flatting in general. So gross. I hope my shading would be helpful, whenever I get that done! Thanks!
