I wonder what my life would look like if I never met him. If I never had to go through the bruises and the pain, if I never had to fight to be heard, to feel the knives of his word in my chest. His vowels would carve out my rib cage and leave me empty until he would give me a drop of water to quench my evergrowing thirst. He was cruel but he could be kind when he wanted to. And he only wanted to when he wanted something from me. And I’m still healing. And growing past what he put me through, but for five years I was begging to breathe amongst a weed that was choking out my chance to thrive, and now I’m finally free.
