So this candyfloss has a bit of an interesting history behind them! The Candyfloss World's January 2024 event was a "Family Reunion", where you designed a family member for someone else's character. I was partnered with the amazing Fallen (toyhou.se/fallen ), and asked to design a father for this lovely boyo (toyhou.se/16198834.jin )! Fallen was incredibly easy to work with, and besides asking for him to be inspired by beta fish, I was allowed to do what I pleased before the final reveal >

I started off my quest for inspiration by looking up where beta fish come from, and they originate in Thailand! After that things kind of fell into place, haha. The other request Fallen had for me was to make him "be a bit of a mystery", with the words "ethereal" and "pretty" also being thrown in. Because of that, I thought it would be interesting to take inspiration from traditional Thai dragons! Thailand's culture helped to inspire his facial hair, hairstyle, horns, and stylized "smoky" markings. During the design process, Taiwan's history and culture got mixed in as well! Taiwan has an absolutely fascinating history with tattoos, and I highly recommend looking into it. The floss' main outfit is inspired by traditional dance attire, and his two other outfits are also highly inspired by that! I'll be uploading them separately in a bit.

Some of my favorite details include how his fishy bits make him look like he's going to vanish like a ghost, how his fins are based on this beautiful iridescent halfmoon beta fish I found (www.pinterest.com/pin/beautifu… ), and the ruffle motifs I managed to sneak into his design. The fabric ruffle piece on his tail is supposed to be another reference to Thai dragons, btw
