I woke up a little while ago and found Jasper’s tank all dark. His heat lamp went out sometime last night leaving him and his tank really cold. I replaced the bulb and scooped up a very cold Jasper who barely responded to me touching him. I held him in my warm hands and against my chest for a while until he and his tank warmed back up. It’s bad for a cold-blooded animal to be left in the cold for long periods of time. I’m not sure how long he was without heat, but it was long enough for everything in his tank to feel ice-cold to the touch. Jasper is fine now. He cuddled up in my hands enjoying my heat and was really alert and active when I put him back in his tank. Still scared me though.

thank goodness Jasper has a warm-blooded caretaker who has toasty hands!
