Sticking the bit that inspired this below, written by Sam himself:
[Vardan]'s just sitting there one day watching the sunset with an open position, so Basil can join him if he wants, and after like, months or years, one day he hears the sound of rustling behind him...

And them ever so softly, a small hand reaches out and touches his back, just a finger tip, as if afraid... And then the hand touches the back of his hand, as basil crawls out to sit Beside Vardan, as far away as he can, only just close enough so that the tips of their fingers touch

And he let's peace wash over him.
