saturday morning carto--...COMIC!horrible fact: in the original nes super mario bros you can get "infinite" lives from some turtles. but there's NO such a thing as infinite lives, if you get more that 126,,,you die....alone...killed by your own greed.

It is 99 in the remakes, but in the original it was 127.
The reason is that the number of lifes is written in a single byte. Once you reach 128 the game will interprete it as -128.
