(presumaby dead?) I can't even remember his name but you will be missed little burger head mouse with bad attitude, hmmmm well, now that I think about it, good riddance, maybe now I can put a new bridge over his old place.P.S:

They're all the same.
Every year it become increasingly obvious that people don't want innovation in games, they want to play the same thing over and over again but with the privilege of paying for it again every so often.
And everyone except Nintendo gets decried for cookie-cutter releases. Nintendo get applauded for repackaging.

It does get boring and obvious if the new plot isn't that good. I HATED Sinnoh because it had the worst plot, and the least amount of actual new Pokemon and too many legendaries that they didn't even give a plot reason for. As long as the story is interesting, the new Pokemon are cool(and plentiful), and they add new features for new game systems, then I'll continue to buy it. Gotta catch'em all.XD
Just as long as they don't run out of ideas and pull another Sinnoh...

As an aside from the 'beat the gyms and become the champion' cookie cutter wash, rinse, and repeat they all have, the plot of how to stop the evil team is interesting. Most of the time.*glares at Sinnoh*

That's still variation within the margin of error to be called homogeneous.
A new but thematically similar plot and some new pokemon with largely unaltered gameplay is no different to Call of Duty having a slightly worse new copy of MW2 each year (just replace the word 'pokemon' with 'gun') aside from who published it and therefore the reception.
This is true of every Nintendo franchise lately.

You know what they say:if it ain't broke, don't fix it. They still make tons of money each release, people of all ages love the game, AND its one of Japan's largest exported game titles. Making drastic changes would be a bit of a gamble when they don't really need to break away from the formula, and the changes they've released so far for X and Y are being viewed as huge gambles by pokefan s already.

AgentTasmania In reply to Pinksneasel [2013-08-22 01:49:57 +0000 UTC]
That only furthers my point.
Why do Nintendo get away with this when any other publisher/developer gets their head torn off for reiterating?
π: 0 β©: 1
Pinksneasel In reply to AgentTasmania [2013-08-22 21:31:00 +0000 UTC]
Because Nintendo is good at not fucking up its long standing franchises. Other companies want to cash in on a franchise and push stuff out quickly to make money, while Nintendo has been doing it slowly and over years and has let their franchise blossom due to fan support.
Did you know long long ago, Pokemon was meant to end sometime father the first movie and after Ash beat the League? Well, fans loved it so much while they started production of the movie that they decided to make a sequel game called Pokemon 2(now known as Gold and Silver. The rest as they say, is history.
And if you look up early(very early) screenshots of the very first trailer for the first movie, you'll see it was very different, with TR in a giant Tank ship and an older looking Misty talking to a little girl that suspiciously looked like she might be her daughter. In fact, the Blue haired coast guard lady was also in that trailer, and was said to be Misty's mom. While they scrapped that idea, they decided to keep her character unchanged but in a different role, that of the warning coast guard.
Look it up, you'll see.XD

Once again you did not counter my point in any way, you just said what I said in kinder words.
Why is it good when Nintendo re-release everything year after year (and in Pokemon's case: multiple clone-stamps at a time) but any other company gets skinned for it?
π: 0 β©: 1
Pinksneasel In reply to AgentTasmania [2013-08-23 22:25:27 +0000 UTC]
Because Nintendo has been at it longer. They can get away with it since Nintendo is defined by its long standing game titles, and people expect more games of the same kind. People expect to get the same thing with slight differences. It's what Nintendo does, and it works for them. Other, newer companies can't do that so easily.
You also have to take into consideration that Nintendo isn't some third party game developer like the makers of Halo or MW. They make games for their OWN system, and the third party games that they do release on their systems are overshadowed by their company titles. Systems like Playstation and Xbox don't have their system only game franchises, or if they do, they're fairly new compared to Nintendo. If Sega still made systems then they'd still release Sonic games exclusively on their system, since Sonic was a Sega franchise. But Sega died, and sonic fell into third party game categories and is now on anything.
If Nintendo just abandoned their Nintendo brand staples like Pokemon, Mario, and Zelda to make new original games, they'd start to fall apart. Sure, they can take in much more third party games like PS does, but then they just be even more directly competing with them. If Nintendo suddenly had all the games other systems had without their own time tested staples and a few new ones nobody had time to grow to care about, and didn't make VAST technological advancements compared to other systems to get you to choose them over a PS or Xbox, then Nintendo would die. What sets Nintendo apart is their vast collection of name brand title series that people love and want new games of, and without that they'd just be weaker competition for the other systems. People love Nintendo because of their repetitious series, and to take those away would lose many MANY fans.
And you might ask: why don't they just make a bunch of new series over and over instead of repeating the same thing? Well, it takes a lot to come up with original game ideas, and many of those ideas can simply be adjusted to one of their staple series. And even if they did make those new games(which they DO do, along side their old stuff) its not a very good idea to make something that will only live as a standalone game or with maybe one sequel before they never touch it again in favor for something new. That would just make a big line of very forgettable games that fans may like but would never see more of. It's much safer for the Nintendo brand if they DO have staples to fall back on, and leave the original game designs as side projects or contributions from third party developers. Keeps fans of old games happy, AND lets new games be made, some of which might become new long standing franchises in the future. Just because some people like you are tired of 'repeat' games doesn't mean everyone is. If they were, then they wouldn't sell them as much and those franchises would die out due to low sales.
They get away with it because that's what the fans want AND because its what has kept Nintendo afloat over the years AND its what sets Nintendo apart from other systems.Β

You can get longer all you want, I'm not feeling that you're saying anything other than 'Because they do' and ignore the question of why people keep paying for something they've already bought before.

Pinksneasel In reply to AgentTasmania [2013-08-24 18:11:24 +0000 UTC]
I'm not trying to argue against that point. People do because they want to, and its what makes Nintendo stand out compared to other game companies. They have titles people love that only they have and have had for a long time, which other companies can't really claim. Just because there are gamers out there like you who are tired of old titles doesn't mean that everyone is. If that were true, Nintendo would sell the old titles as well and they WOULD make new original games, or die out. Their business is doing well, so they don't have to make drastic changes to their lineup.
