Not sure if 'breast milk' would technically fit, horses have the more typical lower-torso mammary location, not the upper-torso of primates.

I can't speak for mare milk but I know for a fact that human breast milk is a rare and highly priced delicacy. There are people out there that are willing to pay hundreds of dollars for an icecream or cake made of that stuff.
So what I don't understand is why the mares acted like that.

I don't see why they're making such a big fuss. It's the same ilk they've been drinking for...well, dunno the pony lifecycle, but for quite soe time, at least. Aside from the awkwardness that comes with this particular situation and the questionable option of drinking from the source, what's different now?
(Same goes for humans, actually. Why make a big fuss out of it? If it didn't kill you back then, it won't kll you now. Not that I would drink it if I knew, just wondering about the reactions...)

Well then have a nice cold lass of milk we got from your mom. Drink up! Well really this situation would be more like auntie (is cake an aunt) or guardian. Though Pinkie does not have a problem. So in this case you would be the friend drinking your friend's mothers milk. Which depending on the type of person you are might not be unwanted.

hee hee reminds me of a scrapped Care Bears fic I did, in one scece their starting a meeting and Treat Heart Pig mentions her - are sore. Cheer Bear hears her and offers her a spare pump to ... help out. Treat Heart then tells her theres no need she has one, she uses her milk to make her famous shakes. Echoing silence, followed by Brave Heart Lion puking all over his lunch tray.
