Description
I've been thinking for the past two weeks for a good name for my cat, (my last cat name was "pan" translated in english means "bread" ) today I decided to call him Dexter, even if he doesn't even care about a name (my theory is that cats have a secret society with secret names and stuff)also if you have some points to share with me that could be really appreciated

Considering his past, I think he would actually get along with Fluttershy. Dexter's owner was a rather shy and meek person who loved her kitty, and when she was murdered, and the police did nothing, the Red Lantern kitty took matters into his own paws and kicked some evil booty!

Cats do not have names, or rather, they all have the same name which they all think is exclusively theirs. It is hard to translate this into english, but it roughly translates to 'Glorious light of the world to whom belongs that worship, and the power and the bits of cat meat with flappy bits.'

The Naming Of Cats by T. S. Eliot
The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter,
It isn't just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I'm as mad as a hatter
When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES.
First of all, there's the name that the family use daily,
Such as Peter, Augustus, Alonzo or James,
Such as Victor or Jonathan, George or Bill Bailey--
All of them sensible everyday names.
There are fancier names if you think they sound sweeter,
Some for the gentlemen, some for the dames:
Such as Plato, Admetus, Electra, Demeter--
But all of them sensible everyday names.
But I tell you, a cat needs a name that's particular,
A name that's peculiar, and more dignified,
Else how can he keep up his tail perpendicular,
Or spread out his whiskers, or cherish his pride?
Of names of this kind, I can give you a quorum,
Such as Munkustrap, Quaxo, or Coricopat,
Such as Bombalurina, or else Jellylorum-
Names that never belong to more than one cat.
But above and beyond there's still one name left over,
And that is the name that you never will guess;
The name that no human research can discover--
But THE CAT HIMSELF KNOWS, and will never confess.
When you notice a cat in profound meditation,
The reason, I tell you, is always the same:
His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation
Of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name:
His ineffable effable
Effanineffable
Deep and inscrutable singular Name.

Cats are weird. Adorable at times, horrible at times, but they will spare us when they conqueor the planet. We are the only ones who change their boxes of poo and scritch the spots they like.

Do NOT hold your cat like a baby, first and foremost. They HATE it. They have to REALLY trust you to be put in that kind of exposed position.
Cats get bored easily, think of a teen with SUPER A.D.D., have little toys and places for them to scratch. At first they will ignore them, but over time they see you act positively every time they use a toy or scratch in the right place and learn that they should just stick to those activities.
If presented with an opportunity to pet the cat, then take it, they're picky like that. They have to feel like they are the owners. In fact they think it's their home and they are allowing you to live there to serve them. LOL I know right.
I love cats and after 20+ years owning cats these are the best tips I can give you.

Nah, you can't make gross generalizations like that when it comes to cats. You know they're too weird and individualistic. Take my cats, for example. I have two orange domestic shorthairs, one boy and one girl. The boy has always hated being picked up and held for too long or being flipped on his back, but the girl doesn't particularly mind either. On the other hand, both of them will happily let me pet them almost any time I want, so long as I don't do anything else they hate in the process. Specialized cat toys? Largely unnecessary. My cats love boxes and paper bags, and one of their favorite chew toys is the big plastic ring that comes off when I open a new bag canister for the litterbox garbage can thing. I've barely spent anything on toys over the past three years and we've all done just fine.
My advice is mostly just to figure out your cat's unique quirks and enjoy how it'll be a little bit different from every other cat out there. Beyond that, I highly recommend getting a cat tree with a built-in rope scratching post, as well as a covered, top-entry litterbox and a Litter Locker or other similar cat crap disposal can. Totally worth the purchase on all counts.
