I think both Trixie and Gilda have good in them.
Here's a bit of IMHO on psychology. Those who blab how great they are is normally in inverse proportion to how much confidence they actually have, and considering Trixie LIED to increase her image: she IMHO suffers from a CRIPPLING low-self esteem. And she doesn't drop her 'Great and powerful Trixie' way of speaking even when off stage, she's built WALLS around herself. Not to mention she lost everything she owned and her home in one night.
Gilda meanwhile refuses to get know anyone, thinking RD was all she needed, she couldn't comprehend the idea that RD would chose others over her. While a feathered jackass, Gilda didn't just lose her BEST friend, she just lost her ONLY friend.
Then there's Blueblood who need a good healthy dose of hard work and discipline to stop being a insensitive spoiled foal-stallion.
I guess one way to at the fans fascination with these characters is: "What happened to the character who existed purely as an object lesson to the heroes AFTER the episode is over?"
