I can't speak for the artist, but when I first got into RWBY, I somewhat expected Ruby to be this cynical anti-hero kind of character. I mean, red and black color scheme, heavy boots, it all just kinda fit.
But we got Qrow to fill that role.

But can you imagine what the show would be like if Ruby was more like Qrow? Or worse?
