In 1996,all of the annuals for DC comic's major superhero titles had a common theme...a series of stories set long,long after Earth was dead,and the main characters,be they distant descendants of humanity or an alien race,knew of Earth's costumed protectors,their names and images reduced to long-existing legends...and as with most legends,many of the details got lost over time.
In many of these stories,the characters don costumes to become the newest incarnation of these legendary figures...and that inspired this piece.
