Over 3 years ago I claimed to have finished my series on "Magic Shapes". Honestly, it was a lie. I had sketched out several more shapes but ultimately cut the series short due to the lack of feedback and became jaded by a few negative remarks on them. I was told by a few people that I should just stop and to just make silly things. But now, I'm finding that stopping this series has actually restricted my flow of creativity as they have still been on my mind and need to get out. I was confused at first by this series, but I'm learning through dreams, meditations and observations that these shapes, these symbols, are important to me and have messages encoded in them and has become almost like a second language.

I have a tarot deck that I picked up back in the 90's and in the more recent years it has been put to great use. The tarot has been helpful for me, not as a gimmicky fortune telling toy, but as a tool to analyze my psychology. The different suits deal with different aspects of our psychology and in nutshell with many years of training I've been able to utilize it to observe aspects of my psychology that I need to correct. It has aided me in the comprehension of multiple perspectives and allowed me to slowly break the chains that have bound me to relative and dualistic thinking.

I could ramble on forever about symbolism and what not but if you haven't figured out already, this piece is all about Balance. Without balance there would be no structure, only chaos. Balance allows for growth and harmony. Balance also has to deal with equilibrium, polarized forces, and karma.

I am learning that sometimes the Balance I need, is to sometimes make art for myself, without anyone else in mind. I share this piece with you since it has been a helpful tool for me, and since we are all artists here, this message may hit home to many of you.

"Before I began working on this piece, an old man in a dream gave me a necklace with a pentagon, and sometimes in dreams I could see myself wearing it. When I finished this piece, I saw the old man again. He took the necklace from me and replaced it with a new shape."
