Description It’s been a long time since the last time I filled a dA meme and I thought this could be a good way to get inspired and learn some things about me (and I’ve got to know myself better too!!), you can find the original template by here: [link] As you can see the template is far different from what I’ve done here but even so I’ve followed de rules:
1 with 3x3 squares, 2 with 2x2, 3 with 2x1 and 7 with 1 square. (note: none of the pictures are mine and I found most of them in a google search)

But let me explain… (tl;dr incoming...)

All over the picture but respecting the 3x3 dimensions in the center is none other than Cthulhu! The picture is actually the cover art for Red Wasp and Chaosium’s game for Android ‘Call of Cthulhu: the Wasted Land’ (love this game but SPOILERS I’m stuck in the level in which the Dark Young and the Flying Polyps make their first appearance). Rather than Cthulhu himself this represents all of Lovecraft’s stories and the so called Cthulhu Mythos. The creatures of the Mythos have amazingly terrifying designs. I’ve also always been a fan of necromancers and ‘The Case of Charles Dexter Ward’ and ‘Herbert West, Reanimator’ have made me approach the subject in a different way. However, my top favorite of Lovecraft’s stories is ‘Shadow over Innsmouth’, gotta love the fishies! I find it funny that I put this as the center piece since I haven’t drawn anything Mythos-related yet, (with the exception of… [link] ) but let’s not forget that Cthulhu is huuuuge!!

2x2

(top-left) ‘The Pope and the Inquisitor’ this represents my interest in the history of the Catholic Church (let’s not forget that my favorite historical character is the friar Girolamo Savonarola...) and the Spanish Inquisition (or the Inquisition in general but this one is closer to me ). I’m also going to include my ever-growing love for the classic Gothic Horror novels since they keep dealing with religious matters (such as: ‘The Monk’ and ‘Melmoth, the Wanderer’). The depravity, the twisted morals, the despair! I draw a lot of inspiration from these things; there you have my ‘The Saint without Skin’ [link] and my oldie ‘Misa para los Muertos’ [link] . Considering all these factors, I think maybe this should have got the 3x3 space…

(top-right) (Mary Shelley’s) Frankenstein. One of my favorite books of all time, not only it is scary and has a monster r(and a really likeable one!) but I also love the morals of the story and the character interactions between monster and creator. This picture was done by Bernie Wrightson, a really talented artist! I have a copy of the book illustrated by him. (note to self: check more of his works!!)

2x1

(left) Baten Kaitos, a video game which I utterly love since it came out nine years ago. It’s a rather unknown game, why? Because not only was it released just for the GameCube but also because the same year Tales of Symphonia also came out in the same console. Ouch! Don’t get me wrong, I love ToS but I love Baten Kaitos much more. The colorful characters and scenery are incredible. You might be thinking: ‘So? You only draw horrible monsters after all’. Haha! But BK has it’s own share of very original monsters!! (even those were colorful…) And I keep listening to the soundtrack! Also, I’d love to draw Geldoblame’s monster form and Malpercio one day. (they are very… lovecraftian ) There’s also another reason of why I put this here, in the game when ever a character spoke the bubble with the text was accompanied by a drawing of said character, I really liked Higurashi Nakaba’s (the person who drew them) style, it was a manga style but realistic (oh, I guess this was when I started disliking manga/anime because of their unrealistic facial proportions..) and I tried to emulate it, this showed in some of my older drawings but I didn’t upload any of them here when I changed my dA account.

(right) Dead Space’s Necromorphs, of course!! Ever since Dead Space came out I fell in love with these deformed creatures, they have such original designs! They were the inspiration for my ‘Tonge Demon’ (the revisited version) [link]

(bottom) The Berserk manga. Well, of course this was going to show up in here seeing how I’ve recently drawn 3 fanarts of this ([link] [link] and [link] ) and have intentions of drawing more!! What can I say that I haven’t said before? It’s dark, it’s gory, it has great monsters and it’s wonderfully drawn!!

1x1

(1st row, leftmost) Tolkien’s works. It’s funny that I’ve put this here and left other things out but this has an explanation, Tolkien’s Orcs are awesome! and also the Spiders, the Ents, the Balrogs, the Ringwraiths, the Eagles and a long etc but seriously, I’ve drawn more than a couple of Lord of the Rings related fanart and since I just finished the Silmarillion and I’m avid to read more of about Middle Earth (guess I should re-read the LotR books) and that the Hobbit’s movies will be out in some months I wouldn’t be surprised if I did more fanart in the future. But again in my ‘I-love-monsters’ vein, (and the design of the Orcs in the live action movie was indeed awesome ) that’s why I decided to put the Dark Lord to represent all that is evil in Middle Earth instead of a picture of Frodo holding the One Ring.

(1st row, 2nd in the left) Dark Crystal. I’ve already mentioned this in my profile but I’ll say it again, ever since I was a little girl I’ve loved monsters and the most terrifying of them all (that I can remember from those years) were the Skeksis and I re-watched the movie a grazillion times just to see their ugly faces. Apparently last year some books with illustrations by Brian Froud, the original illustrator of the movie, were released, I should look into that.

(1st row, center) The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. While I love every Zelda game that I’ve played (too bad I can’t play the newer ones, as soon as the Wii came out I lost all connection to the Zelda franchise), this was the fist Zelda game (and also the first non-gameboy game) I played back when I was 8 years old. I’ll admit that I used to have a huge crush on Ganondorf but as a whole I always liked Majora’s Mask more than the games that had Ganon in them. The villain was more terrifying than Ganon has ever been and the atmosphere of the entire game was darker and more full of despair than other games maybe Twilight Princess also had this atmosphere, I’m not sure since I haven’t played it, but it didn’t have a huge creepy-looking moon menacing to destroy the entire world in three days!!! Nowadays Majora is still one of my favorite villains. Also, on an artistic account, most of my early drawings consisted in copying the character’s illustrations of the Zelda games, Good lord, how I sucked at that and I made so many of those.

(1st row, 2nd in the right) Silent Hill. I doubted whether I should put Silent Hill or Resident Evil in herein the end I chose the first because it’s closer to my thoughts nowadays, and I’ve put the twin baby faced monster from Silent Hill 4 instead of the usual Pyramid Head because I’ve been trying for months to draw a two-headed monster inspired by this one many on my friends have told me ‘oh, this one’s really cool you should finish it!’ but I just can’t find the right pose.

(1st row, rightmost) Ben Templesmith In my macabre artist vein, I just love his style! Go check his page! (this pic is from his comic ‘Welcome to Howford’)

(2nd row, bottom left) Fallout and Post-apocalyptic fiction. It’s no secret that I love the Ghouls in the Fallout games but what I haven’t said until now is that one of my personal artistic goals is to manage to draw The Master (the villain from the first game) and like the result 8I’ve draw him before but I’m not happy with what I did). I also love the feeling of despair and morals in post-apocalyptic fiction such as ‘Metro 2033’ and ‘A Canticle for Leibowitz’

Last but not least, Keith Thompson , and like I said with Templesmith above, I simply love his style but this has to be my favorite of his pictures, I think it’s not uploaded to dA but it’s in his webpage.

(and this time I’m not translating this to Spanish, writing it once took too long already @_@ )
