⛰️I had this idea that Peridot in the Avatar universe would jump around a lot. She would be born and raised within the walls of Ba Sing Se and trained as a Da Li agent, but her bending was weaker than those around her. She was always struggling to keep up and overachieved at her job at the expense of her health.
Eventually when she was around her twenties she was able to have a better grasp on earthbending. But after witnessing a series of events, whether the unwilling recruitment (kidnapping) and "training" of Harmonic Convergence Airbenders (confused and weak like herself) or something, she realizes the cruelty of the group that she had been a part of for most of her life. Peridot tries to help the new Airbenders as much as she can but is eventually caught and almost killed.
So she escapes, leaving her life in Ba Sing Se behind.
Peridot, not knowing much of the world outside the outer walls, struggles for a long time to survive, often picking up odd jobs until settling in an obscure Earth Kingdom village selling crops for a family of bitter farmers. One day, a group of bandits try to steal her earnings. Peridot tried to fight back but the bandits back her into a corner of a wooden house and wear her down. But before they could deliver their final blows, their knives and swords, maybe the coins themselves are taken by a strange force and pulled to Peridot.
Turns out, Peridot could metalbend this whole time!
She uses her newfound ability to take down the bandits and turn them in to the authorities.
A villager who witnessed Peridot's fight suggested that she go to Zhaofu to refine her metalbending. After a few days of processing, Peridot decides to go for it and leave for the Metal Clan.
With some effort she bends the dagger she took from one of the bandits and wears it as a headdress, the ceremonial green gemstone now a good luck charm on her forehead.

While in Zhaofu Peridot finds a master to teach her. The metalbending master, unlike the Dai Li, was flexible, patient, and granted a lot of creative freedom to Peridot.
That's not to say that they held back during their sparring matches.
Soon Peridot was fully proficient in metalbending and became accustomed to life in Zhaofu, but with the rising tensions of politics involving Kuvira and the steady expansion of the Earth Empire, Peridot decides to leave for Republic City and get a job as a mechanic at Future Industries.
In the city she would meet and bond with Lapis Lazuli, Emily, Michiko, and Justice through chaotic circumstances...
