I think the perspective thing has to do with how the girl's staircase is going down and the boy's staircase looks like it's going downwards too...Kinda surreal and cool if you ask me!

Since I think shes going up, and we can see the bottom of the stairs, we should instead have a view of the top of her head and not so much her face.

Ah...I see it..look at the corners at the top of the drawing and the guys escalator/moving walkway is making the persception that we are going up down with him. However the girl appears to being going straight at us. The corners...create the perspective of the hallway flaring a little too much, or in the opposite way...tunneling inward...bulging and then collapsing to one point. So there are multiple perspective fallacies incorporated in this drawing. But from afar its an excellent design and concept.
Maybe a re-run on this concept with different characters might help it out. Maybe adding shadow figures further down or around the characters may help fill space and add the illusion of motion and focus the viewer in on the two. [Its a technique that is used in movies with this kind of scene topic.]

perspective: it's just that the roof shouldn't really be running on the same angle as the stairs, but I think you did a great job of filling this with meaning

The perspective: The boy's steps make him look like he's going down and we're above him, but the girl's look like she's going down and we're below her. If you made his steps look the same as hers (or vice-versa) it'd be fine. VERY dynamic.

If they're on escalators that travel at an angle up and down, I think the perspective problem is that the guy, for one, should be leaning backwards a bit (maybe 30 degrees or more), and the girl, hmmm... perhaps skew her upper body a bit to the right, maybe to the right edge, leaving her lower body same width, same placement.

This drawing grabbed my attention from someone's +favourites and has held it for a good five minutes. I suggested this as a Daily Deviation, so hopefully you'll be able to read my full comment in the 'the suggester said' box.

They're both going down, yet in opposite directions. That's why this scene is so great. Maybe the boy is going to a higher plane of existence, leaving the material world after death. The girl is his girlfriend, sad and broken after losing him. The guy, as a ghost of sorts, sees her for the last time. She, on the other hand, can't see him, and is unaware of his astral presence. Her escalator lane is real; his is an astral mirror image.
Maybe they'll meet in another life, who knows?
Another interpretation is more down-to-earth. The boy is dismayed by the fact that he wasn't able or brave enough to talk to the girl. She's one of those beautiful babes he meets/sees everyday on the subway, on the street, or in a store, but is always too shy to approach, and so loses every chance to make the acquaintance.

I like your take on it, and absolutely agree that they're both going down. I'm surprise that hardly anyone wants to accept that instead of making unnecessary suggestions to "correct" it. Ironic thing is that those who find fault with the perspective don't draw any better than cuson. Really appalled by people's close mindedness and their obsessions with the perfect perspectives and anatomy. This is modern art people, we've moved on from the Renaissance.
