I'm for a time being interested in the old formula of motorjet, this combination of piston engine with jet in times immediately preceding the appearance of the turbojet. The formula can even be mixed with compound engines with turbochargers and heat exchangers and even with free-piston engines, which are gas generators coupled with a turbine which is who exercise useful work.
Even I'm thinking in write a story about an imaginary time in that a race of mechanical post-humans are the "Masters of the Motorjets" and they fight in the air against a race of genetically-enhanced post-humans that uses another technology (in example, mechanically-coupled Diesel engines, or even steam engines) in his warplanes.
This design is one of the first by-product of the planned application of a motorjet (also called thermojet). This is version "D" of a design called AERODYNE 157, a family of designs that use a basic configuration. I will explain this design in more detail in another uploads.
NOTE: propellers are intermeshing, are synchronized and the four 25mm guns are also synchnonized with both propellers!
