Description I made this after watching the final episode of Gravity Falls. To say I was blown out of the water would be an understatement. Not many TV shows are allowed to end on a high note; Some are cancelled before a decent resolution is aired, and others are forced to go on, and on, and on, like a zombie that's just begging to have its head blown up by three-point harmony.

This collage shows how the main characters have changed, starting with their attitudes and outlooks at the beginning to what they've become at the end.

Stan: At the start of the show, Stan was nothing more than your classic cartoon charlatan; a scam-artist who's only on the look out for number one. But as he gets closer and closer to his nephew and niece, we see his softer side get bigger and bigger. While he still puts on a jerky-front, it's easier to tell when he's faking it.

Soos: The 'Mystery Shack Manchild' was just that at the beginning; dependable, but still needing clear supervision. But thanks to Dipper and Mabel's adventures, he's shown what he's truly capable of. And through the twins managed to overcome his own hang-up with his missing dad, possibly the reason for his 'man child-ness', as well as getting a girlfriend.

Wendy: The teen slacker, disinterested with the world beyond herself. Through her growing bond with Dipper and the adventures, she's clearly proven herself to be a caring and proactive individual. I, personally, am actually kind of glad the show didn't make her Dipper official girlfriend, as the age difference would have made things weird in the bad way. I see what they've got now as something similar to Fone Bone and Thorn's 'thing' from Jeff Smith's Bone; a friendship that's above platonic, but beneath romantic.

Ford: Though he didn't show up until the last few episodes, from what we've seen from his writings in the journals it was clear that the Author had become a paranoid and rigid recluse. But his bonding with Dipper not only allows him to open up, as well as see his own shortcomings and come to grips with his mistakes. And witnessing Dipper and Mabel's love and teamwork helps him overcome his own grudge against Stan, moving past the accident that destroyed their friendship.

And all of those creatures in the background? I think Alex Hirsch once said something along the lines of the show being more than mystery and magic, but also about people, and growing up.
