Description
Free-hand embroidery on canvas. A commission for my roommate, who brought me three bags to embroider. My process involved taking the bags apart at the side seams and then painting them with watered-down acrylic paint.
I use a non-computerized Pfaff machine equipped with a darning foot, which allows you to stitch in any direction at any speed. I never draw the design before hand, and prefer to just go for it and unpick any lines that I don't like. Depending on the tension of the machine, sometimes the bobbin thread appears on the front of the bag, giving the line a speckled appearance.
This is one of my favorite things to do, but each of these bags takes anywhere from 5 to infinity hours.
